My son is looking for some Eagle Scout project ideas in the North Florida area. He will be getting OW certification this summer. Is there any parks that need dive benches made or rebuilt?

Let me know what he decides to do. I am always willing to help out a fellow Eagle Scout.
Here are two ideas,
1) There is a scuba equipment rinse station at Morrison Springs in Ponce De Leon that was built as an Eagle Scout project.
2) One of my sons built a tank rack system at a popular shore diving site in Rhode Island as his Eagle Scout project. Included in this project was a set of drawings and a materials list as modelled after a tank rank at Ginny Springs. If your son is interested in such a project in North Florida then send me a PM and I will forward you the drawings. My youngest son is also considering adding a second rack at this site for his Eagle Scout project since the lone rack is proving to be so popular.
Instead of more tank racks how about an erosion and sediment control project coupled with/or a watershed assessment to identify sources of potential nutrent loading and possible implementation of best management practices. I'll be glad to help with that.

Some ideas, based on Eagle Projects I have worked on:
1) Any of the parks with board walks through swampy land, typically have trouble keeping them free of slippery moss/algae, whatever. At Moccasin Lake Park in Clearwater, we installed just short of a mile of PVC plumbing so they had the ability to keep the board walk open year round.
2) Added a scenic view extension with benches on a board walk out to the beach at Caladesi Island State Park. Looks like it has been rebuilt in the last 10 years, but it was in the exact location of the one seen here, just not nearly as big. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&...01032&t=h&z=21 it was a free standing structure, braced off th main walk. maybe a 4 foot extension. I have 6 scars from that build!
edit: Nope, it's still there... look just WEST of the big observation deck, and you will see our little one... looks like it was a popular addition.
edit2: looks like its gone now, but the close up on google maps is old enough that it was still there.

Hi bc980, Keep us posted on your son's Eagle Scout project. The NACD likes to provide assistance to various cave/cavern dive sites several times a year. If his project helps a cave/cavern site, we may be able to round up some volunteers to help him.
Good luck and congrats to your son for advancing this far in the BSA - quite an accomplishment!

A no slip trail from the stairs to summer parking at JB would be really nice, that stupid grass gets slick when wet.
Try the North Florida Springs Alliance. I recently suggested NFSA contact the local BSA Council regrading projects that could be great Eagle projects. Keep us posted on his project.
Thanks for the responses. My son will be getting in contact with NFSA as well as NACD to see if they have any immediate needs. We will be scoping out Troy Springs on Sunday to see how their rinse rack is constructed and to see if they need any more tank benches.
