Default Looking for a cave instructor in Mexico

Looking for a cave instructor in Mexico. Probably best to post here (so others can find it with a search rather than asking again), and PM me so we can discuss.

    Thanks.

Instructors, be sure to PM. The rule for this forum is no solicitation.

Where should I go looking for solicitations? Feel free to edit my post.

I would also like recommendations from students. If you liked your instructor in Mexico, please post. If you didn't for any reason other than safety, please PM me.

I think you mean endorsements. Students can endorse their instructors, and you can ask for recomendations. Instructors just can't solicit students here.

I enjoyed my training with Cave Heaven (www.caveheaven.com) and have been back to spend time with them since my course. There is a course review that they put up on their blog from me as well as others. They are building a new dive shop in Tulum - it is going to be a fantastic place to learn and stay. Do some research - email and talk to some shops/instructors. Ask lots of questions and be prepared to realistically discuss about your expectations. Make sure you find an instructor that fits your style of learning. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

I have a suggestion. Since you live in FL, take your course there, and use your time in MX to see the caves. While you are in a class, you are too busy with drills to enjoy the cave diving part.

I have worked with four different instructors in MX, and know several more either as dive buddies or as instructors who have worked with friends of mine. I can recommend, without reservations, Fred Devos and Danny Riordan (Danny was my Cave 1 instructor, and I dove as a buddy with a friend who was redoing some of C1 with Fred) although you'd have to do GUE Fundamentals to take classes from them.

Steve Bogaerts has been the instructor for several friends, some of whom have pretty extensive experience with other high-quality technical instruction, and they've had nothing but good things to say about him. Certainly, the people I have dived with who were trained by Steve have been good divers.

My friend Jason Renoux just got his cave instructor certification -- Jason's a beautiful diver with enormous grace in the water, and a serious dedication to safety, and I suspect he will be a very good teacher as well.
