Sounds like they finally reported correctly that it was oxygen, based on the resulting fire. The guy is lucky he only lost an arm.

Hope he is OK. A good reminder to keep your O2 tank strapped to a wall.

I remember back in the seventies watching fork lift drivers carrying tanks horizontally across their forks, sliding all over the place... One night I came into work to see a round hole punched through a wall. They said it was the result of a tank having its valve broken off and turning into a missile.

LOL... I did this one day about 15 years ago. The bottle missed the owner by less than a foot as it shot through a wall. It went off like a rocket and shot a blue flame out the hole where the valve was supposed to be.

We were both glad he had a change of shorts, and no one got hurt. It was completely my fault, and I'm a great deal safer now.

Years ago I knew some teenagers who would steal O2 bottles of the loading dock of the local hospital and take them out to the river. They would lay them on an incline with the bottom pointed over the water and then knock the valves off, with the butt end of an ax, just to see how far they would fly. Stupid is as stupid does...

Wasn't there an O2 explosion like this at one of the CE stores awhile back? I believe the tank was dropped on its valve? I might have the details wrong...
