    Default cave choice

I have become interested in how cave divers choose among the various caves to dive in florida and mexico. If you cave dive in florida and/or mexico and keep a logbook would you be willing to share the cave dives that you have made over the past year or two? This is just to get an idea of cave diver willingness to share logbook data. A survey would be developed and you would be asked to indicate the dives made in various florida and mexico systems. Rather detailed information would be required about you, the dive trip, the caves that you dove, the characteristics of your dive, etc.

Should there be a willingness to share data we would try to develop a diver sampling method that would insure a representative sample of cave divers.

Bill, I'd be glad to help in any way I can. I have pretty detailed logs of nearly every cave dive as well.

I have detailed logs of all my dives in the DR and Mexico, and some videos of some of those dives too. I would be glad to share the info.

Thanks guys, it would be just the data that we would need for some discrete choice statistical modeling. Once the data was obtained it would be aggregated and thus anonymity would be preserved. The same modeling we are using can also be employed for wreck diving (i'm also beginning work on modeling wreck and reef diving in the florida keys) and for fishing spot selection. Prior to data collection we would be developing an IRB approval that would contain an informed consent process that describes the security process that would be used to protect the data. Bill

DAN is able to accept computer downloads from a few different dive computers. My Tec2G even has a special "DAN" screen in the logbook where I can add specific information for them. You are probably already aware of that project, but thought I'd throw that out there in case it helps you in your information gathering.

As does the V-Planner Live (for X1) Dive log manager program. In fact, it has a nag screen that pops up at least once per session and demands you upload your dives to DAN.

Can get a tad annoying at times.

I'd be perfectly happy to share any information I have. I have the X1 downloads, and some personal notes about each dive.
