Default HP 80 vs. LP 85's (looking for info)

    Hello,
I am looking for a comparison (Pros / Cons please) between a set of HP80's and LP85's.

I currently dive LP95's. They have become too heavy since having back surgery a year ago.

Looking to lighten up my load but would also like to keep as much gas as i can.

    any insight would be welcomed.

    Thank you

If this is in the wrong section I apologize in advance.

LP85's hold a butt ton more air if you can get a cave fill.

(That's a metric butt ton, not an SAE butt ton, just FYI)

I understand but is the weight that much more great than the HP80's?

My LP95's routinely see 3100psig (2640=95 cubic feet) don't figure the HP80's will see 3900psig.

The baseline of L85's is roughly 6.4, the base line of HP80's is around 4.6, even AL80's have a higher baseline (5.2) than that! To me that speaks volumes, pun intended.....

    Safe diving,

P.S. then dissimilar tank calculations come into play......

Make sure you also compare between manufacturers. Faber 95s are actually lighter than Worthington 85s. You may just want to consider going sidemount. It will save your back a lot more stress than going with smaller tanks will.

agreed with Rob. I have bad knees and although it's not anywhere near as bad as a back injury, I still have problems carrying large tanks. I'm a tall guy, and I sidemount with HP120's. Still a ton of gas, and it's not on my back... I know a lot of people that use HP100's as well. I prefer the 7inch diameters over 8's though...
If you end up going the HP80 route, let me know as I would trade em for the LP95's

HP-80s are very rare. You may be confusing them with HP-100s, which were the same as LP-80s but with a smaller neck. The LP-80s became E7-100s when they re-marked them. Some people call the E7-100s "HP-100s" but they aren't the same thing.

There's a set of HP80's floating around that no longer has an owner. I think they are for sale. I'll ask this week. If you are looking for some.

jsalty, you realize the HP-80s are VERY small, right? A pair holds the same as a single LP-120.
