I have heard good things about LG. I did however run accross a couple that claimed 2500 mah and they tested around 80% of that. Not horrible but count on batteries having about 200-300 less mah than advertised. Sanyo should also be good. LiIon batteries is one of those things where you have to just try it and see. Look at reviews from others who have tried them and DO NOT buy the 10 for $20 deal on EBAY. A good quality LiIon will be close to $8-10 each. The $3 suck! As with anything, China is a gamble, Japan is supposed to make some of the best but getting harder to find as companies switch over to China for cheaper product.

Another thing, stay away from the ones rated to 3000 mah since those are for low current loads. The ones you want should be no more than 2500 mah. If in doubt ask the supplier for a spec sheet. Batteryspace.com lists all the specs in there so you'll have all the info. Also, make sure you build with PCB.

I have a couple of DR lights I bought used. Is there anyway to tell if they have the Slimline cannister? As I am interested in this battery replacement project.

If the canister is slim, that would be it.

I've built packs using the tenergy 18650 which have tabs. Experience thus far is good, 6 months in. Config was 3s2p and 5s2p with either internal balancer/pcb or jst-xh leads, both for LED power sources. I'd say steer clear of cheap 3000mah version (e.g. From deal extreme.com) as I found lifecycle was 6 months before the capacity dropped to 50%.

you can buy Tenergy battery's at all-battery.com much cheaper, although I have not had great results using Tenergy cells (DO NOT USE the cells with PCB's to build packs). I have had many die within a few weeks and others were DOA.

I buy my Li-Ion & Li-Po cells & all of my PCM/PCB's from batteryspace.com they have reasonable prices, outstanding communication and try to make sure your a satisfied customer.

Nice... we can always count on a smarty being around! lol
Slim line is about 2.5"OD by 7-8" long??? May be. I've never really measured one just going by my old canister specs.

buy 9 - 18650's with tabs and you wont need to weld
    and 1 - PCB-S3A10-GS

make 3 sets of three cells in parallel (+ to + to + and - to - to -)
then connect those three sets to the PCB as though they were 3 cells.
Can you provide a picture of your final product?
