Default The Affordable Alternative to Canister Lights Finally Done!

I've been working on this for a while and finally it is finished and at 260' in my pressure pot. It's my Maglite/OMS Canister based can light system. The LED can be either a Cree MCE or SSC P7 with 700 or 900 lumens, respectively or a 5-LED module with claims of 1200 lumens. By using off-the-shelf parts I save the high costs of small quantity CNC production... Oh, and the tailcap is a custom white delrin one I put together to allow me to use a bigger o-ring in s C Maglite. If I do this again, it will be black! Light will get about a 6 hour run time.

How much you charge to make one?

Cost should be less than $500. I think between $450 and $475. This would be for a complete unit including approx 9500mah battery pack, charger and light with goodman handle.
Future units will be based on the Mag D since they are much easier to get and available in many colors.

Just a brief endorsement of 350xfire's work. I just received one of his MagLite-derived light heads with the Cree LED. I'm upgrading my old light by replacing the head.

The new light head is truly excellent work, very professional and not the least bit kludged. If MagLite ever decides to go into the cave light business, they can just subcontract over to 350xfire. His stuff is a real bargain, and if you're looking for a new light or want to upgrade and old one, I recommend you shoot him an email and check it out.

    are the bananas included?

on a serious note, not trying to take away from your intent but looking at this, what is the benefit to your system over the $500 Light Monkey 9W LED system?
    Thanks.

How about parts availability! They'll only be able to repair so many of those since the Osram Ostar LED is now obsolete... And yes, I will include as many bananas as will fit in a Flat Rate box with purchase.
Oh, and light output of mine is comparable to the 12W LED not the 9W.

Looks spiffy, do you have a picture with a comparison with the 9w, the 12w LED, and yours? (I'd like to see what the beams look like at whatever measured distance on a flat surface wall look like).

    Thanks,

I wish I did but I can't afford to have that many lights! lol. I sold a Cree MCE system to a gentleman on this board that dove with a gentleman that had a 12W LM and he reported back that light output was nearly identical. He told me that at the surface, mine was a bit yellower than the LM which is bluer, but in the water the difference was not noticeable. The coloration may vary from LED to LED though depending on the color temp, binning, etc.

The light pictured is a SSC P7 based light. That one produces a tad bit more light than the Cree MCE but it is a bit floodier beam.... Both very nice LEDs though.
