I would like to join or at least view the diy rebreather section and the chemical society sections. Also how do I quote a post with only the highlighted sections.

If I read your second question right, hit "Reply with quote," and go in and remove everything you don't want. Make sure the {quote=whatever} and {/quote} isn't changed - although I used {} instead of [] so it wouldn't affect the bbcode.

An admin will probably read your post and give you diy permissions.

Are you also removing the "quote"....."/Quote" brackets when you do this? Or, perhaps, taking off even just one of the "[" or "]" symbols? The highlighting won't work if the brackets enclosing what you want to quote aren't perfectly exact.

One way to do it is simply to type what you want to highlight, "select" it with your mouse, and then press the "quote" button. If you go into the "advanced editor," you see a bunch of buttons that indicate "Bold," "Italics," Text Alignment etc. The "quote" button is the one that looks like a "text balloon" in the comics. It will encase what you've selected with your mouse with a correct set of "quote" brackets. It won't indicate who quoted it, but you can add that by editing the first quote bracket with an "={userID};{post serial#}".

There hasn't been much activity in the CLS section. You need to qualify for that section before you're let in, though. We talked about the qualifications the other week...
