The hawk eye doesnt look too robust and the reviews suggest similar.

    I just ordered this one...

which appears to be the same as this...

Excellent! exactly the kind of tip I was looking for. I received a similar suggestion via pm that suggested a bulldog clip.

As for my project, nothing too exciting.

I recently found a small but interesting tunnel at Taj Maha while in the process of updating Steve Gerrards stick map. Not surveying but just correcting the changes since 2001.
I lined and surveyed the tunnel and sent my data to QRSS to be added to the archive. Talking to Jim Coke and Bil Phillips it seems that the QRSS survey data is very much out of date, so here I am!

I really want to do some cartography and I'm currently getting the feel for roundtripping from compass. I think this is a long project. Where is your survey?

Very similar to the ScubaPro that I borrowed from Russell

    Default tape measure solo

My 100 foot tape measure has a piece of surgical tube on the end (duct taped). It's 4 inches long. I put a line arrow on the line, then push the surgical tube in one of the arrow slots. reel out to measure. give a quick jerk and it pops out of the arrow slot. I reel it in. The surgical tube keeps the end floating (remove the metal end the tape measure comes with) as you wind it in. Not my idea - got from a Mike Poucher Workshop.
