View Full Version : Reporting Forum Abuse...
We always had a feature that users could report forum abuse, but this afternoon, Pete Murray (netdoc at scubaboard.com) showed me a trick he uses to help keep that board 'moderated'...
When viewing a thread, note this 'new' icon/button on the bottom left of the frame/screen: http://www.cavediver.net/forum/images/buttons/report.gif (http://www.cavediver.net/forum/report.php?p=71941)
Click on it and it says:
This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.:police2 Feel free to help moderate this forum by reporting issues to the mods.

So the only thing that changed was the icon, correct?
~Jeff
BTW - Did anyone else have a STRONG urge to click the REPORT button on the initial post?

How the reports are handled is different now (not just the icon). All reports go into a moderator accessed only forum... for all moderators, not just one, to see/act on it. Yes, I couldn't resist clicking that icon.. a number of times.... but I get to delete them... but I wasn't the only one... :smt102 Thanks to all of you that 'test' it for us...

You have touched a nerve from my childhood. I was a victim of fourm abuse in my youth.
This act was carried out by a family member, my older brother, who thought it was acceptable to discuss my childhood flatulance in the open fourm of our classmates. No matter that I suffered from lactose intolerance, the damage was done, and the pharse "fart sack" was born. I was scarred for years by this abuse. Even today, I cannot pass gas without thinking of fourm abuse.
I feel much better to finally be able to discuss this in a open matter. I will be on Springer next month to promote my new book, "The Gassy Have Feelings Too".
STOP fourm abuse.

I have a suggestion. I'm a moderator on a couple other fora. And the one I spend the most time on, we, too, have a report button. (Yes, Forrest, all the moderators have reported each other with it, just for fun)
Anyway, our button is a small triangle with an exclamation point in it and I can't remember if when you mouse over it, it says "report post."
Every time I see that big RED "Report" button, I think "Yikes! I've been reported!" Am I being too picky to suggest a slightly more appealing looking icon?
We find the button to be of use. Mostly for spam, but occasionally for an offensive post.

It was a red !, but TJ didn't think anybody knew what it was.
