Hi All, Please join us in High Springs at the Santa Fe River on Saturday, March 7 at 9:30. We will be meeting you on River Ramp Road where it ends at the river. Here's the link for a map. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=high+springs+florida+map&ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=29.852555,-82.611694&spn=0.030968,0.037851&z=14. River Ramp Road is the same as 210th Lane on the map. Take this road right down to the river. This will be a great cleanup. We'll work on land in the park, in the floodplain, out on the river, and maybe under the water if it's not too cold or shallow for snorklers. The targets will be trash, water lettuce, and water hyacinth. We'll have plenty of work to keep us all busy. And, we'll have lunch for volunteers! Plus t-shirts and/or drink tumblers! All this courtesy of WUFT, who is sponsoring this cleanup. We have other partners needing mention, too. Adventure Outpost, Alachua County, CCDA Waters LLC, Karst Environmental Services, Karst Productions, and Santa Fe Canoe Outpost. Altogether, we're going to have one terrific cleanup, and we hope you can come to pitch in that day. If you have a potato rake or other useful tool, go ahead and bring them along. We could probably use an extra wheelbarrow or two as well. Also remember your work gloves, and be sure to wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. It might be a good idea to bring a dry set of clothes, especially if it turns out to be a chilly day. I must hear from you by March 4, if I haven't already, because we need time to arrange for food. So be sure to get back to me! You may bring your own canoe or kayak if you would like, but there will be some to use. Hope you can come!Fritzi. Fritzi S. Olson

Any divers needed for this clean-up? Also, where exactly is it going to be as I could not find the directions as listed on the map near the river.

Hi, I am going with my Gear. So are a couple others. From what I understand the river is shallow there so you may only need a wetsuit and snorkle. The divers will be pulling weeds and collecting Garbage. I'm sure Pete or Wes will be there to direct us. You go on 441 like you are going from High Springs to O'leno state park. Turn left before the river on Santa Fe Blvd. It dead ends on NW 210th Lane. Go right. Don't forget to let Fritzy know if you are going so she can have food for you.

The clean up was a big success! Over 100 people showed up to collect trash and pull lnvasive plants. The group that was in charge handed out cups and T shirts to everyone there. The local paper and a broadcast crew from PBS were on hand. It's a great deal for everyone as it raises awareness of river and spring protection. The best part was to see all the High School and Collage kids out working so hard. Thanks to all the cave divers and environmentalist who put this event on, showed up and worked so hard.

I would love to take credit on this one but all I did was post the info. Bandage one kids foot and go home sick...
Next time. Cindy :)
