View Full Version : Beef up a wing bladder?

I have read a few threads about people adding rubber, or nylon inside the wings on their rigs to protect the bladder.

seems like a good idea to me since I dive wrecks around here which have some nasty jagged snag points and I tend to be kinda rough on my stuff anyway.

I just wanted to find out how common it is, what type of material is common, and where to place the material for the best affect.

I've heard of people using wheel barrow tubes or car tubes.

Oxycheq's Extreme series wings have a unique outer shell (along with a very thick urethane bladder) that are the hot ticket for diving where the chance to cut the shell is high.

I actually have the standard Vertex and it in itself is very robust, but if you are diving on metal wrecks a great deal the Extreme would be the way to go.

I've seen car tire inner tube used and purchased a wing used with the tube installed. Just get the right size from tractor supply or local co-op, and cut it up one side to open it up and cut it off to the length you need for the wing. then unzip the wing outer cover and slide the inner tube inside. The inner bladder is now wrapped in inner tube.
