View Full Version : the same question again
Hi,
I am still questioning myself about...
Wetsuit or dry suit...
The thing is we have cf 200 cut for a large underwere, for cold water, so it is a little bulky when using only a little underwere. The other option is a 5mm wet suit with a hood. but after a couple of days, we start to get a little cold.
We dont scooter.
I would like some advice on your good and bad experiences with dry suits in mexico caves...
Thanks
Phil
I'm in Akumal right now. I'll ask at breakfast.
A friend of mine, Deepairmike, just dove in MX in a Hollis Bio-dry suit. He really likes it, and says it doesn't get too hot on land, and keeps him warm in the water.

I think you have two suits, neither of which works.
I've used a trilam drysuit and a 7 mm semidry there. both were great.
The 200 is too bulky, the 5 mm too thin.

That is exactly what I came to conclude, sadly, because I dont want to buy another suit. My 7mm is too small and I dont have much oportunity to use it.

A cheap solution might be a shorty over the 5 mm. That might do the trick for about $100 or so.
I asked, and it appears most people who do a drysuit on their first trip down here, do not repeat on subsequent trips....they go wet.
I get cold easily and wear a 7/5mm with a 5/3mm hooded vest. I wear fingerless gloves to keep the water from going up my sleeves. Believe it or not, the fingerless gloves keep me alot warmer....I can tell when I forget them!
Today we did a long stage dive and I added a 3mm bolero to my ensemble and was nice and toasty.
My buddy wears a 5mm with a hood and is comfortable....he feels the coolness, but does not take a chill.
