The picture is a little close to be sure...but could it be Shangri-La?

Johnny,
Has anyone considered putting together a guide service for folks out-off-town and people looking to expand their horizons? This would be a great way to provide some variety here. I am sure some of us would be interested in diving different sites.
If it was set up like some of the guides in Mexico everyone could benefit, providing trips, directions, lunches, and ultimely direct income to grottos and cave diving organizations. Clearly limitations would have to be provided to certain sites, but that could be another avenue besides other well covered dive sites.

Sorry, but I think this is a very bad idea. Caves in NFL are well marked and lined, there should be no confusion or questions that can't be solved while getting your tanks filled at Bills or CEE, for the deeper stuff you probably shouldn't be going without someone who's been there before (just knowing where the line starts will save time).
An informal "guiding" system is already in place, if you can't find someone to dive with who's familiar with the system you're diving, you aren't trying, I'll dive with anyone anyday and so will most other local regulars.

Actually... I kind of like it the way it is... When a cavediver feels they are ready to expand, they take the time to get to know people who can show them or tell them of "other" sites.
Personally, I feel that this "network" of information for less traveled caves is good for both the divers and the caves.

It looks like the picture is reversed if it is, but it resembles Line Eater a bit.

First, rchrds isn't Johnny :)
Second, onebrightgator is correct, there are plenty of "guides" available. Many frequent this forum :-)

Frankly, it looks a bit like the roped off area at Rock Springs -- but what do I know......

Ok- sorry, you're right it is a little close in for a really good ID, but then again, it might not matter- this is another off the beaten path- all guesses wrong so far.
I agree with Tegg and the others, a guide for pay program is about the worst thing that could happen to cave diving. (I should say has happened, because it already has.) There are plenty of small pockets of people out there working the unusual stuff- and most are happy to take someone if they ask specifically and the access isn't too wierd. If you dont like that so much, then pick up the topos, rent a canoe and get to work. It's much more fun to find stuff that is new to you without having someone tell you about it- even if it already has line in it (Most of them do these days) It's still a lot of fun. There's no reason to dive the usual stuff- I dive about every third or fourth day and havent been to peacock in almost three years and ginnie even longer than that! More good stuff on the rivers!
:-D
BTW- here's a hint- this is only one of three or four springs in a very small area. Dang- I'm giving it away...

And no- I'm not Johnathan

Oh- and Lee- I can definately see the resemblance to Shangri-La- I think I would have guessed that as well.

I have to agree with you that it would be / is a terrible thing for cave diving...
Gary & I just spent a couple weeks down in Mexico, where it is normal to pay $100 - $200 per person per day for a guide. That kind of money just introduces so many potentially negative behaviors.. not good for the divers or for the caves.

I was going to say Hole in the Wall because of the dry cave up above, but if Shangrila wasn't close . . . .

Wow $100-$200 for a guide in Mexico??? I just got back last week. I dove Nohoch with :blackbar. Tanks, light, guide fee and fee for Don Pedro......$80.00 total. She is a great guide very helpful and knowledgeble of the area. She has been there 13 years. I highly recommend her if :blackbar is not available.

Well Marbry,
Compared to that cold, stinky piss water you sump around in up in Tennessee....anything looks good.
Of course, you know where we dive....it never looks like that. I'd be scared in a cave with that much vis......
"J" gets all the easy stuff don't he ?

That dive site is Gainer #2 in Bay County. I have however, never dove the site. Tell us about the cave / dive?
