I am posting this for a buddy of mine.
He’s full cave and all; but afraid of talking in front of a crowd, aren’t you now John M! :-D

Ok, the question is this- When looking at a map of Peacock system you can see the proximity between "the crypt" and a section of the “lower orange grove” at 140ft. We were talking and he was curious if Woody Jasper or the gang ever connected the two systems?

I know that there is a hole in the floor of the Crypt and it leads down to a lower area. Leading from there is very nasty little tunnel but I was not sure if it connected anywere?

If anyone has any historical information or has the mud on their tanks please drop me a line.

Thank you, Andrew

Having talked to Tom Morris recently, I asked him a similar question. I had just finished Sheck's newest book "Taming of the Slough" and had wondered if the crack in the Crypt had been explored.

Tom's answer was that it had been explored, but the aggitation(sp?) of the air bubbles had loosened the rocks in the ceiling and a good portion of it fell on top of them. Exploration in that part of the system was too dangerous to proceed any further.

I've heard rumors that the crypt OG deep and the deep passage at P3 may all be connected. I've never heard proof though.

The passage off the crypt is REALLY nasty- I've been to the end of the line in there once- I will never go back- Tom's recollection is accurate- the line is under a section of ceiling for almost 20 feet- I ran a separate line along the edge of the passage- afraid that the ceiling might collapse in on me again. It is so deceptively pretty- It looks like you could just cruise down the middle of the passage. Dont make that mistake. The line ended in breakdown- There wasnt any flow (not sure that there would be- There probably was a connection at one time, but the layer is too soft and unstable.

I'll second rchrds comment that the Crypt is a nasty place, but it probably did connect at one time. The deep tunnel in PIII runs parrallel to Orange Grove and about 1000 feet southeast. IF its connected at all, it would probably be further northeast of Orange Grove by 1000 feet or more. Mark Long, Roger Werner, and others have tried to make it go, but no success beyond what is mapped.

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and experiences.

This is one of those- I wonder if it goes questions. I will not be attempting this nor will my mate. I am not interested “instant burial” programs. This is not to be insulting to divers we have lost during exploration.

Thank you for the heads up about the ceiling, sometimes things look fine until it starting raining. Not the place you want to be!

Sometimes we need to stand back and say “yep it goes somewere” and just enjoy the view that lays before us.

Thanks Andrew
