calling all CGA guru's

I am in the middle of stripping and repainting 2 tanks. What happens if you take the stampings off(or close to it). They aren't gone yet but it is close. Can the tank be restamped? By me, or a Hydro facility? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mark

How are you taking the stampings off?! Sanding/grinding?

That paint shouldn't be coming off with anything but paint stripper...nothing mechanical as that will kill the tank.

Was wondering the same of how you are getting the paint off?

If the numbers are hard to read and the hydro facility wishes, they can just condem the tank with out any further testing. If just a few letters and numbers are not easyly vizable then the tank does not pass DOT. Before you go any further, take the tank to your hydro and check with them if they will allow you to finish.

Remember that once a tank is stamped condemed, that is the end of the tank. If a Hydro facility can tell that the tank has been restamped they can fail it also.

If you are using a mechanical means of getting the pain off like sand blasting or a grinding you are taking metal away from the tank.
