Holy Crap! I was just there last weekend. Bit more of a drive for me, though. The good news is it's now safe do a giant stride off the diving platform in doubles...

Whats wrong with it? I mean unless you go in it could be clearer. Come on Ceila, need to come on up here one day and dive our caves and you might think that was not to bad. What kind of vis did you have loking into the water?

So you have to look hard for the entrance. You wont know unless you go.

Wow. I was there a week ago and the water was like 6 feet lower, crystal clear and blue.

I will give in to you this time Celia, because of what you did instead. But if you had 10 foot of vis or even 6 foot, we like that and enjoy it so much. Just do not plan to make it up this way if FW is comming, he makes CB look good but RBD is always blown out when he is in the state.

Thanks so much for posting the photos.
In Valdosta, Ga the Withlacoochee River is out of its banks.
I figured Madison was blown.
Thanks for the update, appreciated,

But my ammo stash is much better now....;-)

If the river had come up slowly, I might agree, but I suspect the system is syphoning now, and going in would be incredibly dangerous. Not really an issue, since the park doesn't allow diving when it is like that.

When you find beer cans by the courtyard you know it had been syphoning pretty bad...sooooo, no. Mama did not raise dumb kids....only ugly ones....bad way to speak of my siblings too....

Sorry your dive was spoiled, the Panhandle crowd had a nice couple dives at Jackson...and the electronic lock only befuddled me for a few seconds (hint-the combo pad is on the FAR left and it is the LEFT gate arm that pivots outta the way :smt101 )

Check this link, about a spring near Madison: http://www.cavediver.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9175

I guess I will take Madison off my "Christmas list".

I just looked at the river level graph, and it seems the Withlacoochee is just about at crest, so barring any more big rain events, the rest of N Fl should be OK.

EDIT: I hear that Little River and Telford have reversed, so sctatch the above statement :-(

The aquifer is still so low, that it can't handle the river going up any at all.

Little River and Telford are flooded. Peacock and Cow are fine, as well as everything along the Sante Fe, like Ginnie.

When you say everything along the Santa Fe, like Ginnie, what else is along the Santa Fe? as a backmount sites?

Thanks

Hmmm...Syphon Creek comes to mind pretty quick...

http://caves.tampadiving.com (Find a system, click the "Nearby Systems" tab)...

Example - Ginnie (http://www.tampadiving.com/sections/diving/cave_systems/system.asp?ID=21&region=FL&tab=4)

Or click the map and look at the pushpins...

You need a kayak, or to be a member of the research team, or to have a special training for covert operations, or better all of that to dive those sites. The viz there is below zero all year round any way regardless if it is a flooded or not. For that matter there is really no difference - go to Madison at least gators will not eat you.
