View Full Version : Where Should I clip my reels ???

I dive an Optima CCR. I am using the diverite side mount system with bungies for my BO tanks. I have my reels clipped to a D-ring on my waist all the way back to the wing (right side).

In open water I will generally have only one BO tank and it is on my left side, on occacion or when doing a "bigger" dive I will have a second BO tank mounted on the right side. I have no issues with 1 or 2 BO tanks, even up to 80's.

The problem is this - I seem to have a hard time getting to my reels. It is also difficult to clip (or unclip) the bottom of my right BO tank because of the reels.

I have tried clipping the reels on my butt d-ring, but the reels flop around and crack me in the nads. Obviously this won't work!

If I clip them to the rail on the butt plate (same as the BO tank) it is difficult to deal with all 4 clips in one place.

I don't seem to notice very many others having this much trouble getting a reel deployed, I am either an idiot or am missing something very basic.

I can manage as is, but I would really like to improve my technique.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Sounds like your butt d-ring is to low, try moving it up some.
