I was first bitten by the cave bug 2 years ago thanks to a cenote dive. When I first started looking for a good, local, cavern instructor, I was given the name of Shannon Wallace. I called him up and talked to him for a while, and I was generally impressed with him.

I will be trying to get started with cavern next year, and I am ltrying to look him back up as an instructor (if he is still teaching, IDK).

I know ABOUT him and about the OCDA, but I would like to know what any of you think of him as an instructor.

Also, what other instructors in the Oklahoma / Arkansas / Missouri area would you recommend?

I don't know Shannon, so I can't help you there.

Slim (on this forum) is a cave instructor who lives in Missouri. I'd trust him training my kids in a cave. Shoot him a PM and find out if he's right for you.

Good luck, and enjoy.

Slim is a good choice. Another good choice would be Ed Pavey out of Ozark Dive Company. His shop is about 30 minutes away from Cannonball. Depends on where you are coming from. Ed is in Poplar Bluff, Slim is in Branson Mo.

Shannon is also an excellent choice. With Shannon you also get first hand experience with OCDA and they are an excellent bunch of cave divers, doing some very incredible and fun dives. They have access no one else does and if you plan to dive the OK/AR/MO areas, you can't go wrong with Shannon or OCDA.

Slim and Ed are excellent choices too. Either one will teach you more than you thought possible and show you how to become an excellent cave diver, not just a certified cave diver.
