Here are beam shots from two DIY dive lights I'm working on.
On the right is my 10 Watt W/A HID light with a 6 degree bulb.
On the left is my LED light.
The target is 5.5 feet away and the tape lines are 12 inches each.
What do you guys think?

The real test will be in a cave, with long, clear, tunnels. It looks like your LED puts out more light, but it may not pennetrate down a long passage, like the HID would. The beam is pretty wide. It would make a great video light, though.

Very true. Testing in the water is the only real way to see what a light is going to do. Roger L and I tested several lights in Twin a few weeks ago and the results were much different than they were on the surface. It is great to see lights being developed that are much brighter and not so fragile. LED technology still has some work, but it is making great strides. For swim diving my LED is great. Next time I am in Marianna I will test it for scootering.

Yeah its still a bit soft on the edges but I'm working on it. The light output is higher, I just have to focus it in a few more degrees. Oh yeah, energy consumption is down by 40% and the bulb/electronics packages is down by 60% compared to the basic 10W hid
