Glad you liked the presentation Mat, and it was nice to meet you at the club meeting. I also gave the talk at the 40th annual NACD conference and at a local dive club meeting here in Tampa last month. Both seemed to go well. I had a great time putting it together and re-living my otherwise mis-spent youth!

With my daughter at FSU, I hope to get up to your neck of the woods and dive JB or elsewhere up there.

Well, it's not JB, but let me show you where I got to dive last summer--the world's deepest swimming pool--112' in Brussells, Belgium--AND I made a 30 foot(!) penetration into their pretend cave. Top that!!!

It is definitely in my log. Including the part where I made a quick solo drop to 112' leaving the wife and daughter behind at 33' (the daughter wasn't ready for anything deep). The Belgian staff didn't appreciate my initiative and chewed out my wife underwater for letting me go (which she didn't exactly do). That kind of thing rolls downhill, and it did in this case. Still, I can't go to the deepest pool in the world and not touch the bottom. Later, when talking to the staff, they kinda winked and nodded at me, and an international incident was avoided.

A river inundated river cave basin on 12-14-8, notice the copious boil, the cave itself was still very clear and showed no signs of flow lessening, much less reversing.

You keep your ear to the ground, you carefully develop relationships with other cave divers so that they get to know and trust you, and you spend lots of time stomping around in the swamps coming up empty handed.

Best way to lose the trust of other cave divers willing to share, is to divulge enough information publicly, for just anyone to zip on in and dive them. For better or worse, thats the way it is, and thats the way I have to play it in order to keep myself in the loop with those willing to share with me.

Besides, the adventure and pay-off wouldn't have been nearly so great if I had been spoonfed the information. :)
