Thanks to David P. who i believe mentioned that to me once and i forgot it but started to remember when spoted this item while shopping. Any way, Wallmart sells Clothesline Reel (by OZARK TRAIL) which looks like fully closed plastic drum reel with handle and 21Ft of nylone line (unfortunately polypropilene). Since the cost of the item is less than 2 USD i wouldn't care so much about how many work-cycles it can sustain being used as jump-reel for short jumps like Junction Room.

My modifications included:
- polypropilene line replacement with regular cave nylon line (30ft)
- plastic case halves were glued so the cover won't twist off accidentally
- existing hole for the line was enlarged so boolean knot can slip in easily
- plastic ball added to the end of line(stolen from my child)
- existing stupid plastic molding was cut off to reduce entanglement hazard
- i added rubber band (for gals hair) loop between attachment clip and drum handle to lock drum while reel is waiting for deployment in my belt bag
- steel chrome plate clip for 40c was tied to the item with caveline

I also was looking for replacement bulb for my burned UK Q40 and the lowest price i ever found in diveshops was $7.50. Guess what, RAYOVAC via Wallmart cells high intensity xenon 0.3A microbulbs for $1.* a PAIR you just need to solder small threads of wire to extend its legs and a glue gun to fix it at the best focus position inside the lighthead. May be it will have more probability to be burned due to lower quality standards but that is why i carry at least 3 lights in cave, right?

Quick-links, steel chrome plate clip bolts, nylon skin rubber bands, and simple liquid filled $12 compass (tested to 300Ft) can save you another hundred bucks that you can rather spend on your favorite drink after Ginnie.

Wallmart also sells fire extinguishers that can be reused as tanks, plus, they can be used if you run into any fires back in the cave. ;-)

In the 'day, at Aquifer Dive Center in Jax (Mark Ullman owner, Wes Skiles manager), we didn't even bother stocking much tech hardware swag...just went 5 blocks down to Curry Thomas Hardware...Plexiglass came from the scrap bin at Commercial Plastics (sold CHEAP by the pound)...once we standardized bolts/nuts/hardware we got the by the BOX from a wholesaler on 8th street...oh yeah, and O-rings for a pittance from Dixie Bearing on Haines...saving equalled MUCH good munchies from Taco Bell...

OTOH, the horse and buckboard ride to Ginnie took longer...

Don't know about that, Norm, but I can tell you that driving the 1964 vintage schoolbus from the old PADI College to Jenny took a Long, Long, LongLong time.

Now you have a GPS in your horse Norm that helps to remember where that Jenny is, technology rocks! You have a greate and safe Tuesday and Wednesday! Viz in P1 was almost back to normal except Pothole line so soon you can shoot great pics there.

Wallmart jump reel was successfully tested in Nicholson tunnel yesterday. Had no problems with it: easy to deploy, not harder than fingerspool to retrieve. Oviform body slips good through boolean loop and easily finds its way back to the pouch.

Ary,

LG's Cavern cross-over was SUPURB! After a couple of years of "mass-market" re-certs, it was both Challenging and Satisfying...details to follow...

The only problem with the GPS and the Horse is the disgusting place you put the deco-stick plug into the socket for +12VDC!

Just so long as the Schoolbus wasn't the one from Iowa with the entire Walton family come to Ginnie for OW checkouts!!

(YOU know the one!)

One hell of a good idea for as cheap as it is. Can the moderators repost this thread to a different forum so it won't get erased after 14 days?
