Looking for a buddy to dive Peacock a day or two this next week.

I'll be playing with my breather so you need to be comfortable diving a mixed team.

I'll have at least 80cf of bail out so plenty of gas for an OOA situation. My goal is to practice slinging (2) bail out cylinders, may be (2) 40's or (2) 80's I don't know just yet.

Full cave through Intro will work for what I want to do which is just get wet and play around with gear configuration so I'm not necessarily looking to make 5 laps around Peacock <G>

I just splash in once per day so if your driving any distance consider that it will be one dive. Intro divers, if you want to dive to your limits, surface for xx min's recalculate and dive again I'll do that with you no problem.

Hey, Mike.

Glad to hear you got that bad boy! It sounds like you've already completed the training? I wish I could be there to splash around and take your picture while you sling bailout bottles around.

Be safe,

TJ

Are you looking to do am or afternoon on the 8th?

Are you looking to do am or afternoon on the 8th?

AM is better only because of the heat and potential for thunder storms (don't care for lightning, there's a story there ) but either is fine.

Jamie - I see from one of your other posts your planning to arrive in Luraville around 1:00pm and stay at Dive Outpost, I've been known to hang around there A LOT. We can do an afternoon dive if it works better for you. No worries, let me know.

Sounds good, I'll meet you at D.O.

We'll give you a chance to settle in for a bit, get things sorted out, and we'll get a dive in.

Anybody else want to join us Friday afternoon 8/8?

I'm meeting another team tomorrow at 9:30 but I don't think they will mind if I don't go with them. They had their dives planned before I asked.

What time you want to meet? I'll clear it with the other group.

I need to go back home (Orlando) tomorrow evening, so a morning dive would work well. I need to stop my tanks off so we can do one dive down peanut and one down pothole, I think 10am sounds about right if that is OK with you?

Just curious about this. Just how does an ooa work in a mixed oc ccr team? Do you carry a bailout bottle with an h-valve and a long hose? Do you just hand one of your two bailouts over for the ooa diver to use as a stage/buddy? Does the ccr diver keep the bailout bottle valve on at all times? Do you plan as if you are really both solo with the oc diver carrying a stage s/he does not breathe (a buddy bottle). Bill Huth

Well, It's certainly something that needs to be discussed before the dive.

There are many options but the two obvious ones are:

1) Hand off a cylinder to the O/C OOA diver and he can carry it as a buddy bottle.

2) If they never have, or are not comfortable, carrying a stage (buddy bottle) I can put a 7ft hose on it and just pass them the regulator, not unlike they would have been trained with O/C.

I'm going to try an anticipate your next question which would be...you (the ccr diver) just passed off your only bail-out/buddy bottle and now YOU have a problem.

Fair enough...

I want to carry two bail out cylinders, independent of each other, just like I have been sidemounting.

I answer with a similar question. What do you do if you and your buddy are both diving O/C, (no stages or buddy bottles) and at the max penetration your buddy has a total OOA? Five minuets later same thing happens to you.

The answer is...it's just not your day. Two major gas failures....how do you answer that?

They key, IMHO, is to discuss this BEFORE the dive.

3. Dive with a sidemount diver.

I'm a sidemount diver first, most here know that, so I am always thinking self-sufficiency.

I'm a VERY NEW ccr diver second but think like a SM diver.

Les - Let's talk about it more when it gets a little closer. I know I will have dive buddies up from S. FL that weekend, you would be welcome to tag along.

LR is around 40-50ft viz, not very strong flow (for LR). (Dove that friday & sat afternoon)

Peacock peanut tunnel starts out with about 50ft viz or so, and drops down some once you get to the 500+ft marker. (Dove it Sat)

Peacock pothole tunnel is clear all the way to Olsen, but since I was basic cave, we had to stop there. (Dove it today)

The basin is still very murky, but its enough viz to see your buddy going into the cavern now, slowly improving since a few weeks ago.

We dove Devils Sunday and the flow seemed down a good bit, so you may want to check that out.

Warning: My guestimations of viz aren't the most accurate, but I try lol. I can tell you that all 3 have plenty of viz to have a fun dive.

Edit- after rereading my post, damn my weekend was awesome! Too bad work comes tomorrow....
