Dive a rebreather (meg) and have been side mounting my bailout for a few months using a highland double d-ring, finding it a little uncomfortable w/ 2 bottles so I'm going to swap it out w/ a DR butt plate I picked up at DO a few months ago....

In securing the butt plate to the plate, is this sort of a belts & suspenders approach, or one vs. the other is adequate for securing...? i.e. the BP has both plates to bolt into the bottom, as well as loops to run through the harness.

I have a H AL plate and the MC storage pack already consumes the bolt holes on one side for storing a lift bag (I do both ocean and caves)

thoughts?

Why don"t you ask Mark? He uses the butt plate and lift bag thing. He is using the Nomad but he knows the equipment and how to secure stuff.

******* DSIX or someone could also make more holes, I had to do that with one of my plates.*******

Tim, I am not sure if it is even possible to attach a DR butt plate to a H backplate !!!:smt081

Well the "thing" attached to the back of H plate makes the H plate a de facto rejected H plate.... so who cares what else goes on it ;)

Tim, did you look at the Nomad manual ? Could give you some ideas.

On my gear, the butt plate has one bolt (middle one) attached to the wing and the two loops through the waist strap. For awhile I had lost the bolt in there and didn't even notice for a few weeks. All the weight of the SM 104s and scootering ring/crotch strap were on the butt plate and held by the waist strap. While it wasn't the best, it was working. I think either you set it up, you will be fine.

So Raphael, with what you are telling me, it would be OK to get the bolt from Salvo to attach the two.... OH I THINK NOT !!!! :yawinkle: That kind of advice will get someone killed !!!! ROTFLMAO

Seriously, Tim, while the belt and loops may hold everything in place, I have to agree with Raphael, probably not the ideal setup.... I have not really took a long hard look at this potential scenario with my Nomad(and I dont have it in front of me at the moment), it seems to me, with the bolt missing/not in place, the butt plate could shift more to one side than the other....that may cause some issues.

Cool deal..., I'll try it w/ both bolts and loops and leave the mc pak secured higher up, or maybe w/ some cave line...

I am not sure the DR buttplate was designed specifically for mounting it to a backplate, but I am sure you can get creative and get the desired effect. The initial design was for a single bolt through the buttplate to the lowest bolt hole on the Transpac, and the webbing loops through the waist strap.

Keep me up to speed on how this works out for you Tim...

I have mine mounted to the bottom of a DR steel BP using 3 stainless steel screw bolts. Not sure if the halcyon plate will match. I don't use the loops.

Tim,

You should have taken a good look at mine. I cut the nylon loops off from my butt plate. I'm using medium sized stainless steel links (from Home Depot) that connect the butt plate to my back plate. Tuff as nails and works. Don't try that with your Kydex plate though. It's not as tuff as I've found out on a recent expedition. :smt102
