I am heading to Mexico to do some cave diving (first time there)
and decided to post just in case anyone else will be there Aug 8-24.
We could share a guide and all save some $$$. Planning to stay in Playa
or Aventuras and do 2 dives most days.

Just came back from Yucatan so I can't join you this month. Just wanted to recommend Labna Ha; Pepe and Sergio do an great job as hosts. Their cenote, Caracol, is on the same dirt road but just beyond Nahoch. They have a prominent sign on 307 for Magic Mayan World. I did one dive in Caracol; an hour in and hour out at 27' max. Gorgeous! They limit numbers and skills of divers in Caracol. Next day they took me exploring. We did two cenotes that they had never dived before. And came out at a third that they had no idea existed. Then found another close-by that was sand blocked but has great promise. What an experience.

Jim..I too have a great appreciation for Sergio and Pep and have spent a ot of time with them (at Caracol and in the jungle). Were the cenotes up the road from the entrance or out towards Mol Balam?

Do you not have your lodging or guide set yet?

Apparently not. He is going to be in for a big surprise when they don't even let him off the plane. You must have a local address to put on the customs and visa forms.

I have contacted a local cave diver who is going to show me around.
I have the names of several guides, thanks to forum members and
I plan to meet them once I'm there.

Just concerned you hadn't laid things down yet. It's not that easy to roll your own in Akumal, like it is in Florida.

You just can't walk up to a dive site and go diving. You have to find the owner, many times in a different town, pay, get the key, and then FIND the site....which involves having very good shocks on your vehicle!! Not to mention, the really good sites aren't marked so you can find them.

And if you don't speak spanish, it adds a whole other level of difficulty.
