I'm not trying to be rude either, but if it comes from LP the chance that it has sat in a warehouse for who knows how long is highly likely (okay, hard to happen with the XXL jets). Plus, if there is any problem count on being stuck. Had a foot pocket rip last year and when my LDS called SP all they said was as long as I could show proof that they did not come from LP to go ahead and replace them. I'm sure they meant to say authorized dealer, but they did in fact say anywhere but LP. I bought them from my LDS who is authorized with SP so I did walk out that day with a new pair of jets.

Um, buying from someone on an online forum with one post gives you a better warranty than buying from an actual store now? Cool.

I always by from authorized dealers... When there is a warranty issue it get taken care of.

Would still be better than what you are going to get buying from LP. Buy from whomever you want, I could really care less, just passing along what was shown to me last year.

What experiences have you had returning products at LeisurePro, DeWayne?

Which products wouldn't they replace? Did they violate their own stated policy in refusing a return from you?

None, because before I ever ordered anything I talked to someone who bought a very outdated computer from them at what was advertised as a killer price reduction. No, did not exchange emails with the guy, I talked to him and saw what he had ordered and what he received. Was pretty obvious that it had been sitting in a warehouse for a long time, and no, he was not froewarned nor was he granted a refund or exchange. Then to have SP state their name directly, that was enough for me. If you have received good service from them great, keep doing business with them. I try to support my LDS as much as possible and in return they make me the best deals possible, usually as low or even lower than online pricing, and they stand firm behind everything I buy from them.

If we all purchased an the web we would hav eto get the web to fill our tanks.

Either that or invest in our own compressors. I have really found that the better shops that I frequent appreciate my business enough to be very competitive.

I have gotten better deals just from using one particular shop. I've even been able to try out and test gear on an occassion.

What's wrong with getting gas fills off the internet?

I pretty much use 2, one locally and Edd at CA. It would be a tough call if Edd was closer. The lady that runs the local shop gives me a hard time as I like making comparisons bewteen her prices and what I can find online. Most times when you figure in shipping, she has it beat or at least matched.

Depends on what it is.

I'll give a local shop a shot at the bizness, but if they can't get within reasonable distance (e.g. 5-10%) of what I can buy it for online, they lose.

Then again I don't need the LDS for my fills - I own my own compressor. I also don't get raped for $50 a year per tank for O2 cleaning (do it myself), valve rebuilds (do it myself), reg overhauls (ditto), etc.

Ain't blown myself up yet, and if I come in at 7:00 in the evening off the boat and would like to dive first thing in the morning, I can fill and go.

That you can't accomplish with an LDS - at any price.

I patronize the well-known shops when I'm either at the Pond or Luraville, but nobody's kidding me about the prices being all THAT good. 20 cents/cf for O2? That's $60 for a "T" - more than a 300% mark-up from what I and everyone else pays for it by the cylinder, and the larger ones buy their O2 in a cryo tank where its HUGELY cheaper than those of us get it for when we buy it a T at a time. Profit's cool by me - just be straight with me about it all. Those shops tend to be - most of the LDSs aren't and play this "oh poor me we sell this and that at a loss you really ought to buy this $1500 comptuer at full price so we're all 'even-up'" game. Uh, right.

I've bought plenty of things from LP. So have others I know. I've yet to see a verified instance of them screwing anyone. As for the fins, if you had a pocket rip LP would have replaced it with another - they match manufacturer's warranties in-house, nearly always by simply replacing the item in question. A diving friend of mine had two SP diaphram firsts from them that would not lock up properly - they crept like hell. LP refunded his money, no hassles, two months post-sale (he bought Apeks somewhere else to replace them!)

As for spring straps, the springs are $11 for 3 at McMaster-Carr, the tube webbing is about 40 cents a foot (or you can use vinyl hose for about a dime a foot), and you ought to already have the cave line. The blocks can be made out of aluminum, hockey pucks, or milled delrin if you prefer - depending on what's easier for you to work. Mine are every bit the "jazz" that "H" sells, and cost me about $15 to make - if you think I'm paying "H" $79 for the same thing you're nuts. If anyone needs the nylon tube strap holler and I'll bring some with me this weekend - I've got about 20' of it laying around the house here. Enough for both fins will cost 'ya a beer, I'll cut and melt the ends for you while I'm at it, and I'm making a profit at that price (heh, we all need a beer, right?) :D

BTW, the McMaster-Carr springs are 11" - which just happens to be the correct size for XL Jets for nearly everyone. The 12" springs are too long and the 10s will put WAY too much pressure on your achilles tendon, which can get very uncomfortable. The 12s might be ok for the XXLs. I have no idea who would need the 8" ones they're selling. If the 11s are too long (they are for the IDI fins I have) cutting an inch off and forming a new loop is a matter of 5 minutes with the Dremel, a philips screwdriver and a pair of channel-locks.
