I have heard of Jeff Hancock Gemini sidemount rig, but never seen one. Does anyone have pictures, more information, or how would one go about seeing one?

Thanks

It is based on a stabalizer jacket, rather than a wing. They have them at Cave Excursions East.

Don't know when I will get to cave country again..probably be another month or so.

Anyone have a pic or two of one?

Imagine an open water jacket BC with no tank straps on the back. Then run a bungee in an bicycle inner tube across the back at the shoulder blades, that thread through D-rings on the shoulder straps. Now add an extra waist belt just below the cumberbund with D-rings positioned on the back side.

It is a old school design, from the late 80s early 90s. So, look around and see how many people today that dive that way!

Jeff's rig is old school, but if you think it doesn't work, you are mistaken. i know several people diving that style and getting things done.

I never said it didn't work. There are now newer thoughts on system configuration.

new does not necessarily = better

The style doesn't work for somebody who is smaller then an extra large jacket. Because the jacket will not fit a small person, correctly. A small jacket will not give enough lift.

I didn't buy one, but almost did. Then I made my own. I took an old jacket BC and added a bungee under each arm coming across the back at the shoulder blades. Lower attachment for tanks are two d-rings on a weight belt (2-inch webbing). I can add lead to the weight belt if needed (usually not). I can stay horizontal just fine, slightly head down and definitely fin up. works just fine (but i use short blade fins that are positively buoyant).

better was the harness i built/sewed following the advice of jason richards (see old thread) and his pictures. I like the jeff hancock knock-off for sumps (shallow, don't care if bc gets trashed it's cheap anyway), and the "paul smith" harness knock-off for caves (lower profile, carry more weight).

my wife is 5'1" and uses one just fine. even with stage bottles and a scooter.

She handles it incredibly well also!
