Are there any instructors/training/dive spots in the N.E.? I realize it will not be the best as in FL.But it would be nice to PreTrain before going south. Also would wreck training be helpful along the way.
Thanks
There is one in PA, and one in OH, but I don't think either is very active.

If you're looking to pre-train to be ready for cave classes when you eventually get down to FL, you have a number of options in the north east. Trace Malinowski does a few classes which will help you build the basic skills you'll need to succeed in cave training, or you could even go with something like a GUE fundies class. If you're close to Hartford CT, Ed Hayes teaches a buoyancy class that is excellent preparation, covering all the kicks, etc that you'll need. The combination of Trace and Ed's class would leave you very well situated to move on. It's nice to get to FL and only have to worry about the overhead specific skills rather than learning everything from the ground up.

Many of us in new england would love to be able to dive a cave in the area...sadly the closest thing there is is a flooded mine(there was well publicized death there 3 or 4 years ago). I talked to some people in the local NSS grotto in MA...and there is no divable cave anywhere in MA:(

You can learn a lot in a quarry. Find one that has a shallow, very silty, section. Try to swim a foot over the silt, without stirring up any. The shallower, the harder this is to do. Once you master bouyancy, and keeping your legs and fins up, you won't have much trouble in a real cave.
