View Full Version : Hose lengths for Sidemounts
Folks
am using a Farr harness with Cyklons
am experimenting with 70 & 90cm hose lengths to reduce the kink at the second stage
anyone have any tips for hose routing/correct length's etc???

Are you using a 90 degree agapter at on the second stage??
I use 120cm hoses and wrap them around my neck. No kinks like that.
It all depends on the mission at hand. I f I am with a bunhc of BM divers, with SM divers or in a tight system that any small amount will be cought bye the Cave Gods to remind me of their presance. To me there is no right size, it is the size for YOU. Just keep tryinng many differant sizes until you find you size.

tried that but wasn't too keen on introducing a weak point. poseidon make a 90 and a 45 degree joint they don't make one that has a clock face swivel - as you are probably aware poseidon only make unique fittings/hose's

impractical on SM me thinks but OK on BM

seems the way unfortunately - was trying to avoid the expense
If you are trying to avoid teh expense then get with some buddies and just keep trying a differant length. Hope you got enough buddies to help you outwith that since they might have already done the same thing.

BM = long hose and 50cm for backup.
I tried other configurations on SM, but 120cm around the neck suits me best.

When I dive open circuit sidemount, I use Poseidons with the stock hoses. They are unidirectional and you can avoid running a hose behind your head. I don't really like the swivels because they always seem to leak. I used to subscribe to the bottle swapping theory in the unlikely event of an out of gas scenario, but it's neither easy nor fast and I now carry a long hose bungeed to one of the tanks. I realize this could create a problem if you're really squeezing through tiny passage, though.

It depends on where you bungee the long hose. I keep mine bungeed on the tank so that it's in between the tank and my body. Not much of a problem with it there. Brian Kakuk says he keeps his bungeed behind the tank. I brought up the issue of getting it caught up in small passage and he said he hasn't had that happen to him.
If you are getting kinks, try rotating the position of the 1st stage, before messing with different hose lengths. I use stock hoses with my Cyklons, and have no kinks.

Hey guys/gals, OK so Im running my left hand tank to a left side feeding 2nd stage w/ a 90 deg. swivel. I measured the hose length to ~22-24 inches. anyone know if this is about the right length before i make the whopping $20 investment?
Thanks in advance.

Scubapro's inflator and AIR2 hoses are 24" regulator hoses with inflator or AIR2 fittings screwed onto the end. If you're headed to the panhandle stop by my house and I'll give you one (I have a bunch). If you keep it you can buy me lunch.

Do you have a photo or diagram of sorts to show your config you could post here/pm to me
cheers, Matt S
