In a recent trip to Fl, we did some cavern diving at the Cypress springs and found some interesting sites.
Harold Vickers sold Cypress springs, just North of Vernon in 2001.
The new owners, Panther Creek Inc, have been pumping and bottling the water ever since.
The site is now closed, and can only be accessed by boat/canoe.
We found a site, not too far from the spring where 2 large sinks have formed.
They are right at the end of Cypress springs road, just before the creek.
The sinks look like they have dropped in the last 12 months or so. One of them is about 50 yards by 30 yards and about 20 ft down to the water; Depth is unknown at present.
The other hole is 80 yards by 50 yards and 10ft deep on one side, 20ft on the other, also unknown depths. The water looked brown and still, and I don’t think there is a divable connection to the cave. It is however a substantial drop, and may very well be related.
Florida water management have posted signs in the area stating that it is a “work area”
My concern is that the amount of water Panther Creek inc is pumping out is having a direct impact on the systems in the area. I would be interested to know if anyone has been in the Cypress system lately, and noted any difference, secondly, If these recently formed sinkholes are part of the Cypress system, we should also take care diving these caves.
Anyone been in this system lately?
