Sorry for the fuzzy details but I just found out about this a few days ago.
The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is holding its 8th annual Chattahoochee Challenge on March 29th and 30th in Chattahoochee FLORIDA. There will be Tunnel hull drag racing, OPC and SLT racing as well as Vintage boat races.
Now I'm not going to lie to you.
I know nothing about boat racing and this is the first event I have ever been to.
The reason I'm going is because our dive shop, Aquatic Adventures (aka Zeagle Express) are now sponsors of the APBA Region 5 Dive Rescue Team. These are the rescue diver teams that sit along the boat courses for hours on jet skis wearing full dive gear waiting to find and pluck out these crazy boat pilots after they go face first into the drink at 150 mph.
We are going to be outfitting a few of the rescue divers with Zeagles new Rapid Diver BCD during the races and at some point be doing a live demonstration of its use and deployment for a group of Swift Water Search and Rescue divers from the south east area.
I know this is pretty far from cave diving but it should be fun if you are in the area and not planning a dive this weekend swing by and say hi. We will have a table set up at the Rescue 5 tent and we will have some limited gear on display. Mainly recreational and rescue diver setups. We wont have any technical gear on display on this trip but I am trying to incorporate it into future events.
If you do stop in be sure to let me know you're on the CDF and I'll slip you a 5% gift certificate from Zeagle Express. Also if time allows Ill be trying to swing by Peacock and maybe get a dive in on Friday morning or Sunday afternoon. Spot me near my truck and I'll hook you up as well.
