I figured this was the best place to ask this question.
The only tanks I really use for sm are LP85's. I occasionally use LP45's when the cave dictates it and really like them for certain things but...
I have never used AL80's. How much lead "weight belt type lead" do I need to make these act at least similar to my LP85's?? And approx where do you place it on the tank? IE: bottom, midway?
The only reason why I am asking is, I have been given a bunch of AL80's full of 15/55 that a group was using for re-breather bail-outs. They never had to breathe off of them and went home, left them behind...for me!
YIPPEE! FREE MIX FOR ME!!! :smt080
PS: Yes, I'm certified for trimix.

Mike Mike Mike....
AL80's full of mix are for GIRLS! Silly man! I'll be glad to run up there and use them up for you though :baby
I travel out of the country sidemount and AL80s are pretty common. I have a second set of cam bands to hold lead weight I place near the bottom of the tanks.
I put 1# on each AL80 for the springs and 2# in salt water. I would guess at 2# for the trimix but I've never tried it.
Actually that's it in my new avatar if you look really really close. ;)

That's what I told these guys...AL80's full of mix is for girls!!
You need to fill these LP120's I've got laying around to 3600psi with 15/55.
They weren't buying into it :smt047

Hey Gary,
Thanks, that helps.
I would have thought more so that's good info. I'll take the cam bands off one set of sm tanks & I even have 1# & 3# weights laying around somewhere...Sounds like 2# would be perfect though.

I think the difference is in getting the weight to the bottom of the tank where it's needed. Takes a lot more if it's added near the middle of the tank.

Exactly!
What I do is get in the water with everything, except tanks, and add enough weight to hold me, drysuit, etc in the water, and split that between the tanks. I have found that I need up to 4# per tank with a "fluffy" undergarment, if I expect to stay at a 10' stop for any length of time.
