View Full Version : dry suit
Any input on the O.S. systems drysuit? I have not seen one. Tough enough for cave diving, or not? Thanks.

Try calling Steve Gamble and getting his opinion. He has seen every drysuit known to man,and the weaknesses of each.
I owned an older model,it was made in 99 I think, (it might still be in my attic). It was the lightest and easiest donning suit I ever owned. However, the laminate glue material/seams degrades and leaks develop all over and are hard to pinpoint as they follow the seams. I had Steve look at it and he gave his opinion. :)
I do not know if the newer ones are any better, I hope they are! But as Kelly said, definitley give Steve a call, he will answer any questions!

I bought my first drysuit in '91. It was an O.S. Systems trilam and I agree with Jay, it was very light, very easy to put on and off. The inside was a very slick material. It also dried very quickly.
It was a good suit in my o/w recreational days, but I highly doubt it would hold up very long at all to cave diving and wreck penetration.

I currently use an OS Drysuit. It's very easy to don, and so far, it has not leaked a bit. It is extremely light (under 5 pounds) and can be had in a miriad of colors. The zipper never gets stressed, because it does not come in contact with the shoulder straps. I have about 20 or so dives on it in the last 2 months, so I'll keep you updated as to any quality issues.
BTW, I am also a dealer for OS Drysuits, so if you have further questions, give me a shout.

Mike, this is a warning. This violates Rule #2

sorry :smt090
A few of my buddies have owned them, all infrequent recreational divers, and they did seem to tear and/or leak with very little provocation. Very lightweight material, which is great for drying fast but not so great for durability.

Thanks for the input, there are so many choices, I'm just trying to narrow the field. Kman

I'm taking a very serious look at the line of Dive Rite & BARE suits. The "HD Trilam Tech Dry" is getting some pretty good reviews on another site.
I have a DUI CLX450 now, it's at least 7 years old, used it in the Great Lakes before I moved down here. Probably have around 500 wreck & cave dives on it but I'm fixing leaks in it now every 1/2 dozen dives or so.
It's been a good suit up until about a year ago but in all fairness I'm pretty hard on suits. I've put it through the ringer it looks like it's 10 years old LOL. I would buy another one if I had "that" kind of cash. It is a signature series and back then it cost me +2K. I need to learn to wear my wetsuit more often when I do the sm stuff, hard to do when the morning temps are in the lo 40's!!
Sprung another leak yesterday around the zipper...I was looking at the Bare 2008 catalog last night :)
