Angie and John just came to PSSP from Madison Blue Springs SP and they informed me Madison is still closed for cave diving due to tannic river water intrusion, the river is up into the spring now-we've finally gotten some rain in the south GA north FL area.
I know it was closed for a week or so but no one posted it so here is your info kids.
Conditions at PSSP are great the basins are crystal clear- a little river intrusion was reported in the Waterhole Tunnel last weekend.
Safe diving,
Janet

That is a shame.

I was at Madison last Saturday and the ranger (older gentleman, forget his name) almost didn't let us dive.

He showed us a report that someone (didn't leave a name) had filled out from the day before. They wrote that viz was so bad they couldn't see buddies lights and called the dive after 200 feet.

He talked us into entering at Martz. Viz at Martz to the mainline was murkey, 20-30 feet, but about 50 feet up from the mainline we hit clear water, wound up having a great dive.

We exited through the main basin. The worse viz we saw (aside from the exit at Rocky Horror) was 20+ feet.

Closed? Really? It's a great dive right now. Nothin' wrong with it but a few hundred feet of Texas vis in the beginning. :yawinkle:

Thanks for the update, Janet.

That's a bummer! Recent drought excepting, does this happen often there that they close it? How do they decide when to re-open? I'm guessing a phone call would be in order before making a long trip up there.

P1 was as clear as I've ever seen it Friday. As Janet said, crystal clear in the basin, and inside the system as well (didn't go up Waterhole though).

The whole system is gone now the ranger did not allow John & Angie to enter the system.
We'll contact MBSSP this week to see when they will reopen the system.

Used to be, every Spring the saying about Telford was, "First to go, last to blow."

Madison Blue was second.

It looks like the Withlacooche has reached it's crest and is dropping however we are to get some severe storms tomorrow morning which could raise the river again.

Looking at the park's state website there is no swimming or diving yet, SRWMD page shows the river raising again from recent rains.
Sorry,
Janet

Thanks Janet, your our "eyes on the water" You have reduced my Carbon footprint....
Everyone I've asked in the last few weeks has said "uh... not sure" and I'm the kind of person
that would make a 3hr. round trip on that kind of Info.

I'm going to Manatee anyways, but again thanks for the Information.
(I was just kidding about the Carbon footprint thing)-- I'm a Republican.
