This last saturday two of my buddies and I where driving around in the woods in NFL. We where looking to get to this one spring and J said trust me I know the way. As we had planned it, only J and I where going diving, but then due to the unexplained nature of the fairer sex, H was able to go as well. So we met up and had a quick bite to eat. then loaded all the gear into H's truck and went riding along in NFL, I felt like I should have a cold beer in hand as we looked like a bucnh of rednecks driving down the highway. We got to this dirt road and J said this is the way, we turned left, we turned right, J was sure then he wasn't. we stopped along the way to look at little sink holes, finaly we came to a dead end and the J wasn't so sure anymore but said we need to be over here. we got out of the truck, walked down to the river and looked around as there was a boardwalk. so at the river what do we see but a nice sized boil. Then it came down to who was going to dive it, I told H and J I would flip a coin if it ended up heads H was going, comes up tales J was going. I sure didnt want to go into that cold river water. then they just gave me a look like your out of your everloven mind, which I think I am. I knew we where not leaving untill someone idiot went into that cold river to see what was making that boil, I got suited up and jumped in. There was about to feet of vis in the river and Holy SH#T was it cold. I went down the bank and foud a drop off and followed it down, I felt warm water, I was think this is good, its not just any eddy. Then I came into warm clear water, I found the spring, hell yes, I looked for a good spot to tie off and went in this was a small hole I moved a couple rocks out of the way and squeezed in, I was pluging the hole flow was ripping, my hart was pounding, I made it into room that was really sandy and the vis was around 30ft, but I could see really well, I didn't see any line, hart pounding faster, and I am sure I had some really stupid look on my face then I found a line, damn. I went in a few hundred feet and checked it out. the line was really discolored and sand had covered it up in some spots. I looked around and spent about ten minutes going in, it downed on me oh yeah I have buddies up topside, I turned my dive and exited, right by the begining of the line I found a shovel. well thank doesn't go there, so I come up and squeez threw the entrance. do a safety stop as I hit a max depth of 70ft and cruise threw the frigged river water and pop up and look for the guys, they where already getting geared up, H comes down and I hand him the shovel and tell him it was alittle tight. we then went for a really cool dive and I look forward to going back. if any of you made it this fare and know of this shovel and there where some line arrows with MB written on them I would like to know what cave we dove.

Try contacting Scott Hunsucker. If he has not dove it he most likely knows who has.

How old was the shovel, my dads initials are MB and he was a big time cave diver before he blew out his eardrums spearfishing.

MB might be Mike Bruic of Madison Springs notoriety. If you could contact me via PM with more site information perhaps I can shed more light on your dive site...I have been tromping the woods and diving the springs of N. Florida for over twenty years. Many of the sites I know by location not by any assigned name.

If you were on the banks of the Withlacoochee river on the other side of Madison sprgs, than it sounds like: ``Pot springs``. I tried to get in there last fall, but got blown out. Hope you left the shovel there, its there to help you get in.
If you were somewhere else, give us details...

Be careful when driving out to Pot Springs, the hunters during hunting season don't like others wandering around there and aren't afraid to let you know. And besides when hunting season is over with that is the best conditions for diving since the Withlacoochee is lower.

Mike Bruic had done a very detailed map, with I think Guy Bryant doing the original exploration. A copy of the map used to sit in the guard shack at Madison. I've always been told the place will have rock movement close to the time of a reversal,as is well evidence by the boulder sitting on the main line.
