We would like to get a rough idea how many is going to attend the New Year's eve dive from 11 PM Dec. 31st to 1 AM Jan. 1st.
Either reply here or PM me, I believe we have at least 20 so far.
Thanks
Janet

Mark me down!

But I have a question - since there's no electricity at the P1 parking lot, what do you do about lights? Will there be generators?

What do you do for lights in the cave?

We were making night dives at Peacock for years, before the state got it :-)

FYI, the Cave Diver's Forum is bringing some snacks & drinks... like hot chocolate, coffee, etc.. some sodas. To find them in the dark, just look for the red chemical lights hanging nearby.

Janet, please keep trying to get permission to have a fire. That would be cool.. I mean warm...

Ranger Rick is working the 31st and the New Year's Eve dive, I am working New Year's Day
so I will not be at the midnight dive. I'll inform Richard of the camp fire request, I'm sure he'll make one, he was all prepared for an earlier afterhours dive but the downpour that day changed a lot of people's plans. Hopefully it will be a dry night. The beavers have moved back over to P1, last night they cut two trees down which are now resting on the porch, yes I'm going to clear them away, but it your lucky maybe you'll get to dive with the nocturnal beavers on the 31st.

If we can't have an open fire, could we have a bar-b-que grill, or propane heater?

Put down the Beano also :D
Hey , we dive Cow in the evenings when it's darkie out.
But someone in our little clan has a Propane light he brings out and it lights up the area pretty good.

Jeano Beano

P.S. I remember last new years eve (2006). It poured outside and so instead of doing a midnight dive , everyone hit the , er , uh , you know ... :D

I can't make this one, knee surgery on the 28th. But just wanted to add that a Petzl headlamp works great for assembling and fiddling with gear. Nifty as they are angled downward which is helpful in not poking your buddy in the eye with the beam.

Ranger West will open the gate at 10 PM for the New Year's eve dive, the park will be closed from 5:30 PM until 10 PM. Richard will have a camp fire burning, weather permitting.
There are some items being donated to the CSO which will be given away during the course of the evening. We have 30+ people who plan to attend, it you can carpool with another diver that may be a good idea, otherwise Richard will assist erveryone to find an acceptable parking space.
Thanks,
Janet

Safe diving.

Are we limited to P1, or could we spread out to Orange Grove, or P3?

30+ people in P1 at the same time may get a bit crowded :-)

I would love to dive Peacock at nite but i will be freezing my butt off in New York. I wish that this would be a option at least once a month. I hope that you would PLEASE consider this option because I know a lot of cave divers would love to dive Peacock at nite. Thanks

My wife and kids are going to visit her sister on the 31st and I have to work on that day. So I get to do what I want new years eve. I I haven't been able to find a buddy to drive up with. If I come up is there someone else I could dive with?

30+ divers in Peacock all at once? You couldn't solo dive if you wanted to :-D

Cool!! Count me in.

The Chemical Light Society sounds interesting. Are they staying separate from the lighted divers to avoid blinding?

It was a great dive! Thank you everyone who put this on. It was so nice to see a small handful of old friends and a few new ones. The surface support was greatly appreciated also. The cave was crystal clear, the stars bright, what a great way to start the NewYear! Gratefully, Cindy Butler

We had a much better galaxy dive in the Ginnie ballroom :-) We filled the ballroom with stars using a new, soon to be patented glowstick light spreading technique. Plus we had lights, showers, shelter from the rain, and flushing toilets ;-)

But, in the end, it's great that you had friends on hand to break in the new year. I met some new ones, it was a good time !!

My wife and I wondered about the glowstick chemicals. We saw lots of the chemical spread around in P1. People throw fits if someone bumps or kicks a wall, how do you justify the release of these chemicals into the water basin? Plus I picked up pieces of the plastic surrounding the glow stick out of P1.

It was a great dive and I greatly appericate everyone's efforts, but we did discuss this last night and this morning.

Thanks.

Don't know about P1, but the chemicals we released in the ballroom are way down the river by now ! The way we did it we didn't have any plastic or glass residue.

It was too much fun sitting around the fire enjoying some wine and watching the bottle rocket display...

Thanks for letting me tag along with you and Shirley at Orange Grove - very pleasant dive. Hope to see you guys again soon!

Pat, anytime! It was great diving with you, too. We should do it again sometime! 7AM-ish work for you? :smt081

Janet, thanks for the numbers update. It'd be great if we could do it again, maybe this summer. :clapper

Hey now...some of us desperately need our beauty sleep (that last bottle of wine had nothing to do with my late morning...)

Ha!

I will gladly force myself to get up early if we can coordinate a dive or two.
