I have read and know all of the basic hand signals which are great when there is good viz. I have not read about any signals when you are working in a NO VIZ. I have learned some of these signals through a PERT course awhile back but never seen them in the cave diving manuals. Can anybody direct me to where this information will be found. Basicall how do you signal out of air, entangled, etc etc etc

Who did you take your cave classes with? These signals were shown in every cave class and course manual I've ever seen.

For instance one manual I have in front of me is the NSS Cave Diving manual. There are 8 or 9 pages on communication. The hand signals are shown plain and simple. It shows how to do touch contact, how to go forward, stop and come back. However nothing is said on how to communicate when the viz is so bad you can not see the signals. How can you communicate that you are out of air, stuck etc????What is making me think of this is when I was in a cave the other day and there was a silt out in a very small area and I could not see my buddy and could not signal.

the out of air signal in a no-viz touch contact situation is to crawl up or down your buddies body and take the reg from his/her mouth.
the entangled signal is to follow the body of the buddy to his/her arm and then hand (which should be ok'ing the line) and cross your fingers and twist them in his/her palm.
you already gave the go, stop, come back touch signals. any more needed?
the NACD website has an online store with a cave communications booklet for sale. it's been recently updated. check it out:
