Hi all,
I am organizing a trip out to Mexico to do some Cenote diving sometime next year. I am looking for information on where to stay, where to dive, when is good to go, and especially on the bug situation :( (from an Irish perspective, just how bad are the bugs??). I am full cave certified and sidemount...
Any info would be appreciated,
Thanks
Dinny
My favorite place is Villas DeRosa. http://www,cenotes.com
They are all inclusive, catering to cave divers. There is a diveshop, with compressor, on site. They have guides, and sherpas for the harder access places.
If you have never been before, this is probably the best bet.
Connie LoRe (Ginnie Springs) runs several trips a year to there. She also is a guide, and actually makes breakfast for all her group.
If you want to spend a lot of money on bad service, try Villas DeRosas. If you are looking for a professional and very friendly divecenter try Xibalba. Robbie Schmittner is the German owner, he can also help you with accomodation. Are you planning on bringing a buddy?

For my first half dozen cave diving trips to Mexico, Nancy's is the place to go...they do everything for you [for a price ~ like everybody else] if you want.
Not sure why Mart is knocking Derosa's, I think they are as good as it gets for your first couple trips there. It's an all inclusive Mexican Maya Riveria cave diving trip, pretty good bang for your buck.
After that...I would rather pay EXTRA to sleep in the jungle & deal with bugs for more remote caves. Sherpa's are a no brainer...hire one and tip them well, they earn every penny, or Peso as it were. Plus you get free Spanish lessons if you are so inclined.
