Current Problems Inc./Adopt-A-River invites divers and snorkelers (and paddlers
and anyone else interested) to a river clean-up on the Santa Fe River. The targeted section is from the Gilchrist County Santa Fe River Park boat ramp and Highway 47 bridge upstream to the rapids (shoals). This beautiful area has been heavily impacted (lots of trash) by tubers and others over the past several years.

Karst Environmental Services, Santa Fe Canoe Outpost, Adventure Outpost, Blue Springs, Ginnie Springs, Gilchrist County and AAA Porta Service, Inc. are supporting this effort.
We will have workboats and lots of canoers and kayakers supporting us. We hope to work until about 3:00 PM, and we will have hot food and beverages available. We will have free air
fill chips/coupons from Ginnie Springs, Cave Excursions, Amigo’s Dive Center and Lloyd Bailey’s Scuba for those diving.

The water has been staying very clear, and shouldn't be too cold; full suits
and hoods will be best, and perhaps a pair of garden gloves. If you have them,
please bring dive flags and catch bags. (Note: all SCUBA divers must be "certified".)

This is a chance to use your diving skills for a good cause and in service to the environment. Please contact Pete Butt for more details and further information if you're interested. More information will be posted as we get nearer to the date. The Santa Fe River needs your help.

Please join Current Problems on the Santa Fe River for a dive cleanup to clear the river bottom of trash. We are teaming up with the good folks at Karst Environmental/Karst Productions, along with Adventure Outpost, Blue Springs, Ginnie Springs, Gilchrist County, and Santa Fe Canoe Outpost to conduct this event. We will work from a location downstream of the site cleaned last fall to the 47 Bridge, possibly a little beyond. Many volunteers are needed for this cleanup. We need people to work on land, people to work from canoes and kayaks, people to make trash pickups in power boats, and snorkelers to dive for trash. Won't you please consider spending a few hours with us to make a real difference on this popular stretch of the river? We'd sure appreciate it, and so will many other people as well as the wildlife.

You are welcome to bring your own kayak or canoe, although we will have some available for use. If you plan to snorkel, then you will need to plan on bringing mask, snorkel, and fins. Other than that, just bring yourself wearing appropriate clothes and footwear for the weather that day. Lunch and snacks will be provided for volunteers.

We will meet at 9:30 at the firehouse on CR 340, not very far west of Ginnie Springs on the north side of the road. From there we will shuttle over to the put-in site. If you should arrive late and discover we have already gone, then you may head for the 47 Bridge and help out on that end of the cleanup. Our plan is to finish up by 2:00 or 3:00.

We'd like to know if you are planning to attend, but should you get a last minute urge, you'll be more than welcome to show up. Call 352-264-6827 or e-mail aar@currentproblems.org for further information or to let us know you will be coming.

Hope you can come!
