today, while cruising one of our local rivers in a kayak i came over a patch of crystal blue water & white sand, flushing into the tanic waterway that I was paddling on. I followed the clear blue water inward, and came upon a large pool some 500 ' in circumfrence. From the vent, there were thousands of small fish just inside the entrance. The mouths of both entrances were clean & un-scared-! There appeared to be a spring vent & a syphon nearby. I had no dive gear with me, but I managed to get several photos, which I'll submit if you like. I have a few of these so called 'finds' & really don't particularly wish to broadcast them. But, this one does excite me to the point of bringing my gear out of the closet. Now all I need to do is find a couple of trust worty buddies-?
This 'window' has probably got a name, but I've not confirmed it yet. I'm not going to make the mistake of publicising someones private property again, but this is different. It is on public land-!
Let's see, FW & maybe JH, or even TM might be interested here-!

Hmmm.....a headspring that is approximately 160' across...with clean water...and it's "new"? Sounds fishy to me. Hmmm....his first post, too. :orccensored

Ok Tegg,
apologies accepted....as soon as i get my prints back, I'll send them to Forest & let him post them. My guess at the time of the size of this pool area may be over-exagerrated...with my best guess without measuring it would be in the vacinity of some 300+feet in circumfirence......maybe some 85' across the head boils. Let me research this site, & we'll make up a 'list' of invitees-!
later...

I'm not experienced enough to dive a virgin cave, but I would like to take a look at the pictures.

We have identified the "new" karst window.

This is a link to a description. Note the "Scuba - no" rule.

I have been told that the caves are very short, and tight.

Sorry :(

I have been there, by Kayak (great trip) and with tanks.. some friends had rented the cabin and let me check it out.

Here is the dive report I posted back then:

Seriously the spring there was neat but as Kathleen said she was able to breathhold dive in as far as it looked posiable to go. The entrance restriction is square shaped and pretty small, the walls are soft stone - almost clay like.

After a short restriction less then 10' long sloping slightly downward and definitely belly to floor "wiggle and crawl. Inside small room 20' long 10' high 6' wide. Good flow from 6"x12" hole at far end. Fracture plane formation. Other hole with long ironing board sized flat rocks. No passage."

The 6 inch by 12inch hole was the largest hole leading farther and was at max depth (17') and penetration (probably about 30') at that point. No chance of getting even a stage bottle through there without digging the hole bigger (which I am against - and probably wouldn't get you very much farther).

The other spring vent was more promising. It was a sloping sand hill - very low. Sidemount or posiably even no mount. At the time I wasn't side mounting and without taking off my tanks and serious danger of loosing them I couldn't even poke my head down there far enough to guess what it would be like.

Probably sidemount would be successful entering that way at least to find out what was past the ledge at the bottom.

Gary,
Thank you for that report, it is very informative, and I would've been honored to have you along. It's difficult to try to keep up with all the responses here, but it heart felt, thanks. Just to let Moonfuzzy know that I've recognized her comments too. Hope we get to meet soon.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas here too-!
