I dove Madison Blue today and found that there has been additional work on the main line over the last 4-6 weeks.

The stop sign has been brought well in to the Horse Shoe room now.

The Horse Shoe room line has been removed. (The line that runs from the Rabbit Hole side of the room to the large entrance).

The main line comes within a very short distance of the large entrance (it is in the cavern zone)

I’m not saying these changes are good or bad; they are notable changes that everyone needs to be aware of.

I dove Madison for the first time a few days ago. I was told there had been some changes to the lines, but since I had never been there, I just took in the view. But it seems to me that some of the line placements wasnt very well thought out. Since that was my first time in that cave, I paid extra attention to the line placement, just incase I had to follow it out in the dark. There was some definite line traps with the main line.

But with that being said, Madison moved up tp the top of my list for my favorite Cave dive so far. Especially the Godzilla Jump.

Please explain the poor line routing. I have been there a few times recently and I did not notice any problems.

There has been some changes to the lines at Madison. The sign was moved to the middle of the horse shoe room and the main line comes all the way up to it. The short line that went from the main enterance over to the rabit hole or vice versa has been removed. I personally think that it was a great change and makes it much simpler. The line before was way to close to the entrance and was a welcome call for problems. Remember this site is not open to ow divers which removes the need for a line in this area. I personally don't care where the line is I will find it. I am just happy to have Madison as an open site and Love to dive there.

So- the rabbit hole line is gone? This used to be the primary entrance cause the flow in the big entrance sucked so bad.

If you used to use the Horseshoe line to get to the mainline, don't know why you would do it this way, you would have had to run a primary from O/W to the Horseshoe then a looong jump, down the crack to the mainline. Assuming you do the reel work by the book.

OR

A primary from O/W directly to the mainline [one less reel]

Sounds like you can still get to the mainline with one reel and you don't have to run it down the crack but to the stop sign.

But I haven't dove there in quite a while so I might be talking out my....

The mainline used to come within about 3 feet of the rabbit hole entrance. This made more sense if you were working in the darkwater area or whatever that jump to the right that has all the passage was called. The rabbit hole is so small, that entire area was nice and low flow all the time.

I last week was my first time, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, coming through thr rabbit hole, me and my buddy both picked up some broken glass coming through there. Is that a common problem there?

I haven't been there in a while, but I seem to remember running a line through the rabbit hole, going to the left for a decent ways and dropping down into the cave where I tied off to the mainline. When was the line within a couple feet of the rabbit hole? I was thinking it was like 50 - 75 ft away across the cavern.

It was only a cavern line that started (ended?) near the Rabbit Hole. It ran around the Horseshoe room, to the Railroad Tunnel entrance. I only used that line, if I was planning on going out the other entrance after a dive up the mainline.

Maybe it has been too long and I am remembering something else. It's been 10 years since I've been there.

That's how I remembered it when I posted the two reels/one reel thing other day. I haven't been in there in a little over a year.

I don't ever remember the "Horseshoe Line" being that close to the Rabbit Hole. The "Mainline", as far as I know, was always down through a crack, forward and to the left of the Rabbit Hole.

Moot point now I guess since it has been tied to the stop sign.

If you tie off outside on the platform or anywhere to the right of the rabbit hole and run a line in the rabbit hole be advised your line can shift through a small crack and cause a major line trap. Someone had a concrete anchor to the left of the hole which would be much better tie off. At least that is the way it was in November. When the big rope ran from just inside the rabbit hole to the other side many people did not run a line from the outside .
