Cathedral Work Weekend, Sat Apr 14

Hi all.

I was thinking this had been posted somewhere already, but perhaps not. Anyway, construction on the steps at Cathedral will continue this Saturday, 4/14/07, starting at 9am. Construction assistance would be welcome and appreciated.

The primary goal for the weekend is to complete the decking along the walkway, plus a small temporary step down to help ease site access while the project continues. Depending on turnout, we may also work on framing the first platform, and possibly do a little work improving and stabilizing the path closer to the water.

Materials will be on site. If possible, you should bring tools for driving the decking screws.

Thanks Todd for all your hard work. Sorry to hear about the fallen tree,hopefully nothing else in the weather dampened your day.

Thanks, Kelly. It was an extremely productive day, and it's very nice to see the walkway shaping up -- it's done except for railings, and perhaps some sort of surface treatment. The tree was just funny... nothing we can do but laugh about it, and be thankful it didn't hurt anyone or do more damage! Going forward, it looks like we'll need a weekend for site cleanup, focusing in particular on the remains of this tree and a couple others that appear to be at risk of falling. The smart move is likely to address that before proceeding with the platforms, to minimize the risk of further damage (especially in light of the upcoming storm season). Gene, Bill, and I also talked at the end of the day about what we can do closer to the water, and some very good ideas came out of that. Anyway, the upshot of all this is we may wind up tackling things in a different order than what I was previously thinking.

Daedalus, I don't think we've set a firm date yet, but will do so soon and do a better job of getting the word out. It's probably in a few weeks...

All, thanks are in order to a number of people who have been working hard on this, both this past weekend and on several weekends leading up to it. I don't have time to do a proper job of it today, but will get a note out within the next week or so summarizing the work and contributors thus far.
