What is Outbox?

Why are some of the private messages I "sent" put in an outbox and some are in the sentbox? What is the difference between an outbox and a sentbox and are the outbox messages actually sent or is there something I must do to get them moved from out to sent? Some have been there a month or more - I was wondering why some people say they are not getting my pm's and it seems they've been getting stuck in the outbox....

All PMs go first to the "outbox", then to the "sentbox". They only move, once they are opened. It is a good way to tell if someone actually opened your PMs.

If they stay in the "outbox" they are unopened, or possibly there was some problem that kept them from showing up in the intended "inbox". We have had similar problems after server crashes, etc.

ok, that explains it. thanks. I think there are three old ones that I sent about the time of that last crash, then three more recent ones that sat for a few days - meaning the receivers did not open them yet, which explains why they are not answering me!
