In general the way to deal with this type of question:

First, you should ask at the place you bought it. If they can't help you, call the manufacturer.

I replaced mine last year and other than suffering a mild heart attack at the cost of the bulb I found the actual replacement to be rather easy.
$139.00 for the bulb and here is the owners manual link that shows you how to replace the bulb.

I replaced my 10w HID bulb last month. The Luraville shops had both the bulb and the o-rings, but I would have loved the manual Caver Ranger provided! It worked great that weekend, as well as this week at Madison Blue, Cow and LR.

As the manual states, it is "field replacable," but if you have time I would definitely send it back to DR thru your LDS.

BTW I found out the bulb was toast when I got in the water at Peacock. Back in the parking lot a most excellent caver, Kevin, lent me a spare HID light so I could make the dive with my friends. Thanks!!

If you have a older MR11 bulb you can get a Welch Allyn 10W replacment from Battery Space (http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2204) for much less than other locations but you have to do the install yourself. IT IS NOT HARD TO DO. Just get some exact replacment orings and a pic to pull the old rings out.

If you have a newer sunspot bulb you will have to go to a DR dealer or send it back to them for a replacment. I have not checked the interchangability of the older MR11s and the sunspot so I dont know if an upgrade or downgrade is possible.

If you need more info just PM me.

Does anybody have a new or like-new 6* or 13* bulb that would like to trade it for a like-new sunspot? It's way, way too tight for my likings.

I'll be at JB the 16th and 17th, plus every other weekend or so through May.

Is'nt that the H10 buld with a separate mr11 typr reflector? If so then it might be possible that the UK light canon bulb would be a replacement.

The sunspot looks like a H10/Light Canon bulb with a high polished reflector that is separate. The thing I want to do is source the reflector at this point for a DIY project.

My experience with Dive Rite is that they have a very good turn around time for bulb replacement - 3-5 days round trip from my post office. Call to get the RMA# before sending the light off. My last repair was about $90. I got a gratuitous cord upgrade at the same time - no more orange cord 8). I haven't had trouble with the light since.

I can see that having a spare bulb with manual might make for a saved dive, but I've always managed to find a loaner or rental light (~$10 for whole weekend) to use instead during my trips. You'll have to evaluate the situation yourself knowing the places that you'll be diving.

If I read this thread correctly, your MR11 bulb was broken. Two things, one-yes the reflectors are different; two-the reflector of an MR11 is part of the bulb. If the bulb is dead the refelctor goes with it; there are no parts to return.

You should like it; Bill Main says--- "it is the only light a cave-diver will ever need."

The sunspot bulb is awsome,I was able to compare it to an mr11 in the caves this weekend. Not too tight for me,Id say its just right. The light did cut out twice though. After turning it off and trying it again after a few minutes,it would come back on.Im thinking a short somewhere.
