I'm planning my first trip to Jackson Blue, and I've got a couple of questions. I know you need cash for the daily access fees, but what about the yearly pass? Will they take a check or charge for that? Also, are there particular hours for check-in & check-out at the sheriff's office?

Thanks

I believe you can check in at anytime, I know you can check out at anytime. On the sign in sheet you have to put a time to leave, most people just put down midnight, there's no penalty or anything for leaving early.

I don't know about the annuals, sorry.

Enjoy your dives, JB is awesome.

On both the pink daily pass and the yellow annual pass it says, "Payable by cash or check (with proper ID) made payable to: JACKSON COUNTY COMMISSION." The annual pass also says, "$300.00 per person, $300.00 per 2 person team."

Hope this helps.

Despite what it says on the pass about accepting checks the current policy (and this is posted inside the station at the check in window) is for cash only and preferably exact change. Check in/out is available 24/7 during the off season (Labor Day - Memorial Day). You must sign in and out each day that you dive with the official change over time being midnite. Sometimes, depending on who is working, I am able to get away with going in at midnight to sign out for the day and then turn right around and sign back in for the next day thus avoiding a trip back over when I wake up in the morning. Hope to see you there this weekend.

You know, you're right. Although it says on the pass that checks are accepted, now that you mention it, I do remember that sign on the window, "Cash only for impound and diving fees."

I stand corrected.

If your car gets impounded, Dewayne probably had something to do with it hehe.. but if that's all that happens consider yourself "blessed" - others have suffered FAR worse fates than a simple impound, or so I hear!!

OK, one more question and then I'll stop. Does Verizon have decent coverage at the dive shop and out at the dive site?

Yeah, Verizon kicks ass all over Marianna, like 75 bars in the tower, a thousand watts of power, road runner road road runner, bout a thousand miles an hour, and I got the radio on..... sorry a little seX pIstOls flashback, but the VERIZON is on. Sid BTW black Nissan 4dr p/u w/ the iced 5.9 filling the bed and spilling over the sides, see you in Marianna.

Yeah, JB is cash only, and they do prefer exact change.

The reason for this is that apparently some divers decided to pay at the Sheriff's office with rubber checks. That took quite some stones - but the result was a "cash only" policy, despite what's printed on the passes.

If you've never been there before they will card you and ask you to fill out a sheet with emergency contract information. Once you've been there once they just want money - or, if you have an annual, just bring it in with you, sign in and get a key.

The annual is a good deal if you have someone else to go with you. $300 good for either one or two - the "two-fer" is a good deal in that after six trips in a year its paid for.

I too always put 12:01 AM on the "out" time - they don't mind you checking out early. In theory at least if you don't check out by the time you said you would they send a unit over - in practice I hear they often don't "catch" that you're still there. Messing with the sheriff is likely unwise though, and they really are nice folks - never had any trouble there at all.

BTW T-mobile has service at the Sheriff's office, in part of Marianna, and on the road right near Edd's. However, at JB its blissfully "out of range"..... ahhhhh, my phone don't ring when I'm gearing up... I like it!

Well, the fiance and I dive together so if we're going to make it back more than once in the next year, the 25/day/pp/3 days makes it worthwhile to buy the yearly pass. Problem is finding the cash over the next 2 days. play the lottery all the way down I guess...

Not near as much fun having them impounded as it is just beating the perpetrators to a bloody pulp

If I buy a pass for 2, can I use my pass with different buddies?

Yes, you will each be issued a pass. You only need to be there together at the time you purchase it. After that you can dive whenever and with whomever you desire.

DeWayne, I don't believe you understood his question. He wants to buy one pass for himself, and one for a presently unnamed buddy, to be used by different people over the course of the year. At least that's what I'm guessing he means.

I'm almost positive they won't let you do that. Not only that they require all of the purchaser's info to go on file, but also that, if they let you do that, a group of ten or so friends would go in on a pair of passes, and then divie them up over the year.

So while this is not an official answer, I'm sure they won't let you do it.

I had not considered that as a possibility of his meaning. If that is the case then no it can't be done. I did include in my answer that they both must be there at the time the pass is purchased. Between the two of us I think he gets the idea now.

Yes. You can also dive alone. They do not care at check-in who you check in with. If you buy a "double pass", you simply must be there with the other person when you purchase it.

Richard,
It doesn't work that way. They normally write the names on the permits along with date. You might get lucky though. Normally there has to be two divers there, together, to receive the two passes for $ 300. The deal is the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, so anything is possible.

Oh, I see what he was asking - can you buy a pass "for two" and keep BOTH.

No; as was noted, the two people buying the pass have to be there, and they put the names of the divers ON the passes. Each diver then takes his/her pass.

You can subsequently use your pass without the buddy (e.g. its two separate passes that are issued), or with a different buddy, but that other person (if any) also needs a pass - either an annual or daily.

Think of it as a "two for one" sale, not a "two divers on one card" sale.
