Hey everyone, this year's social we are going to try something new....the CDF will supply the drinks and chips, but we would like everyone to consider bringing a dish, like a family picnic. We want to keep it simple, just have a great dive of diving, and spending time with friends, after all, we are the Cave Diver's Forum. Hope that you can make it, and we are always open to suggestions.

So what favorite recipe are you going to share?

Bill

I like the idea of doing it during winter break. That makes it possible for South Florida cave divers to get up there. :D

Haveing the True CDF social at the end of Dec. makes it possable for thoses of us that are from up yonder here to also come and enjoy it. You Southern Florida Cavers are still closer. Think we need to have a contest to see who traveled the furtherst to go to it.

You don't stand a chance :-)

There are usually people from WI, and MN there, sometimes from Europe, and occasionly Japan.

Easy choice:

#1 Ginnie is about 40 min from my front door.
#2 Ginnie has WARM showers.
#3 It gets COLD at the end of Dec.

Jackson is good to dive when it is still hot out... I lie down on the sidewalk and bake in the sun for a while until I warm up. (I sound like a lizard!)
My other trick at Jackson is to go to each hose & showerhead, using just the little bit of water that has gotten hot inside to rinse off with : )

FYI, like last year, Ginnie Sponsorship: (From the Ginnie Staff): $35.00 for diving Saturday & Sunday, Dec 30th & 31st. $8.50 for the non-diver. Social centered around the Devils Eye Pavilion on Saturday, 30 December, 2006. The pavilion will be available for the Cave Diver's Forum Social at no charge.*

I'll be there in the afternoon. I am selling some gear at the exchange at CEE. Joe Prossor donated his cave diving gear to the Museum to sell for a fund raiser. Some of it I kept for the museum and some will be sold.

I'll have a set of LP 104's with a guard. Regs, lights, a dry suit (size 3 viking) and some other cool odds and ends. Own a piece of history and I will take some pies to the CDF social!

PS We still have new books and maps that you can buy online for Xmas gifts. www.overheadtimes.com

Yes this is a shameless ad and a RSVP. Love you guys, Cindy :D

I am new to Florida, and moved here mainly for the caves. I will do all that I can to be at the event. What activities are there going to be for the non-divers? Thanks for the info and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Ginnie Springs has canoes for rent, volleyball nets, camping, etc. The CDF will have food, a fire, etc :-)

High Springs is the nearest town. It has many cute and fairly cheap art and antique shops. A few of my dive buddies' family members spend time there. It's a short drive to Gainesville where the Natural History Museum is with its fantastic Cave and Butterfly display; also, there is a really nice Art Museum and complex. Both are donation only. Cindy :)

Thanks for the info Cindy. I didn't even think about the shops in High Springs. I have wanted to stop in and see some of them myself, but I have always driven by too early, and they are closed when I drive back by. See ya all on the 30th. Safe diving.

Rich,

About what time will the gear exchange start?

About 9.00am or so, I'll be there between 8.00 and 8.30 am to open up the gates, if people wish to set up early....

Merry Christmas... :)

Safe diving,

Do you need me to bring up any of the T-shirts I have in storage?

Let me know...

See you there.

If you would be kind enough to allow me to make a suggestion:

Last year when I attended this gathering (my first), the only person who introduced himself to me was Bill Rotella. Everyone else I met I had to introduce myself to them (which did not bother me not being an introvert). I realize alot of you cave divers are introverts, but take the time to introduce yourselves which makes others feel welcome and you will be surprised how easy it becomes, and the great people you will meet (even though I realize it might make you uncomfortable).

Just a suggestion...

Although the crowd was small it was hungry. Thanks for the food and drinks. The scooter race was fun and everyone I spoke to had a great time. The weather cooperated and was perfect! Now on to 2007!

The Social was a very enjoyable day. Good food (thanks!), good company, good weather, and a couple good dives in Devil's.

Thanks for arranging the social and for all the hard work keeping this forum going for us all.

My family and I had a great time - it was my first time participating in the great scooter race - I had the distinction of having the longest time.... Surely that must be good for something, especially with an hour of burn on the battery before the race!! Anyway, It was a great time, met new people, saw some familliar folks too. Better watch out, I'm building a drag scooter for next year's race!!

Thank you to TJ and everyone who brought food to share. We had plenty of food for everyone. Thank you to the Sponsors (Ginnie Staff, Dayo SCUBA and Cave Excursions East)! Lastly, thank you to everyone who attended.

Here's a picture that Ray took of the Scooter Race:

I don't have all the names and exact details, but an Eric won with his Gavin. He took the trophy after blowing away the others (4 total). I think his time was nearly 60 seconds better than the next closest.

Congratulations Eric!

My favorite picture of the social, so far that I've seen, is this one taken by Van Fleming (NC) during the social on Saturday... This tuber was very entertaining during the scooter race...

Thanks for a great time and a good excuse to leave Texas and go cave diving. It was nice to put a face with some of the avatars. Only one more month until I move back to Alabama!

Next year we'll need a trophy for the tubing snorkle guy.

I beg to differ.

Gavin - 2:58 Eric
SS - 3:15
DV-3X - 3:18 Sludge
DV-3X with low batteries - 3:48 Mark

I still say my time would have been better if I hadn't stopped to help that child that was drowning ...

Hey, great to meet you, and good to have you along with us. Thank your lady for the fast shut down on my HP valve! She saved my dive.

Good to see you all again, as that was fun.
