Has anyone tried the salvo SR1s with the SRS seconds as a primary?
I am currently using one for O2 but It breaths great and don't see why not to use it for a primarys
This was posted by curtshu awhile back; no one replied. Thought I'd repost the same question cause I'd like to know too!

I ended up having my Posiedon blow an o-ring and so I used the Salvo on the left post. The only thing I have been told is that the HP seat is not good and will not take 300 bar I do not know this to be a fact just what I was told.
The Salvo website says the SR1 is good for doubles and other desirable things, so it seems they intend them for cave divers. I understand that 300 bar is 4350 psi (1 bar is 14.5 psi), which is a large fill even in cave country. I know at least one cave diver who exclusively dives salvo regs (he's the one who got me to look into them).
Well, I went ahead and bought one and will now employ the empirical method. I'll be taking it into a cold dark deep quarry sunday and see how it works (42F, 120 feet, bottom time about 1.5 hrs - includes deep stops and deco). My scubapro regs tend to freeze up and free flow in this quarry. The atomic regs have not (but not convenient hose routing for back or side mounting). I was planning to dive a set of LP 125's, but since HP may be a problem I may change to HP 130's with a "cave fill."

Larry Green was using them as his primary regs when I took full cave from him last year. He said they work great and had no complaints. I personally have not used them but am thinking of picking up a few to use as stage regs...

I have sold a bunch of them and have had no complaints. They are very similar to some other regs on the market that have had a good repuation. If anyone needs any of these and your local shop doesn't carry them let me know. I will try and help out.

Today I dove the salvo to 107 feet for 47 minutes, in a quarry, with temps 43-45F on the bottom. I totally forgot to pay attention to breathing through it! The mixes were what I had at home in various tanks that I whipped across to get the ft3 I needed for the dive.
The 24% was the salvo, the 30% was a sherwood magnum, and the 96% was a posieden. the atomic z1 was on a necklace, but not used. the info below is from v-planner. I entered the dive info from a vr3 into v-planner; the results from v-planner are virtually the actual dive. we did a few more minutes at 10 feet on 95% (15 min), mainly because I just hate a surface swim back to entry/exit.
Dec to 110ft (2) Nitrox 24 50ft/min descent.
Level 110ft 44:48 (47) Nitrox 24 1.02 ppO2, 105ft ead
Asc to 80ft (48) Nitrox 24 -30ft/min ascent.
Level 80ft 6:00 (54) Nitrox 24 0.81 ppO2, 76ft ead
Asc to 60ft (54) Nitrox 24 -30ft/min ascent.
Level 60ft 8:00 (62) Nitrox 24 0.66 ppO2, 56ft ead
Asc to 45ft (63) Nitrox 24 -30ft/min ascent.
Level 45ft 15:00 (78) Nitrox 30 0.70 ppO2, 36ft ead
Asc to 30ft (78) Nitrox 30 -30ft/min ascent.
Level 30ft 5:00 (83) Nitrox 30 0.57 ppO2, 23ft ead
Asc to 20ft (84) Nitrox 30 -30ft/min ascent.
Level 20ft 8:00 (92) Nitrox 96 1.53 ppO2, 0ft ead
Asc to 10ft (92) Nitrox 96 -30ft/min ascent.
Stop at 10ft 2:40 (95) Nitrox 96 1.24 ppO2, 0ft ead
Surface (95) Nitrox 96 -30ft/min ascent.
OTU's this dive: 83
CNS Total: 31.4%
208.5 cu ft Nitrox 24
39.1 cu ft Nitrox 30
14.4 cu ft Nitrox 96
262 cu ft TOTAL
I've been told the best endorsement for a reg is that you didn't notice that you were breathing. I didn't notice. I plain forgot to pay attention. Next time the salvo goes in a cave with me (but with the z1 still on the necklace).

I hate to say it but we might not be able to get an open discussion of the Salvo Regs on this board due to Rule #6. Like I said I was given the info about the HP seat by someone I respect, so took the info to heart.
Now If we can somehow get around rule #6 and get someone to elaborate on what the problem was thought to be it would be great. Otherwise we may need to move this discussion off the board.
Bottom line is I would love to be able to buy a reliable quality regulator for $250 bucks that I can have as back-up to my Posiedens
and can be used on stages and travel gas.

I think you guys are doing okay discussing these regulators. You are not making personal endorsements about a business or commentary about an individual.
Stick to the facts of the equipment, keep it professional and be fair. I think discussing the relative merits of each regulator type, performance, comparative analyzes are just fine.
I don't see a problem with this thread or any other similar thread regarding dive gear.

thanks angie. I was a bit worried about rule 6, but thought if I stepped over the line someone would shut me down! I am honestly curious about salvo regs and know nothing about them. Oh, I don't work for any LDS or any scuba manufacturer or distributor, but would appreciate hearing from them too. I keep watching the commericial forum, but no salvo rep has posted anything.

I called salvo and talked with corey. very helpful. He says the regulators are fine (he does work for salvo), but that the sr1 first stage has a weak main spring, not a high pressure seat problem. However, it's the same problem in that HP (say over 3000 psi) can make the reg free flow. This is not a problem under 3000 psi. The sr2 is a different first stage with a superior main spring and does not have this problem. He thus recommends the sr2 for cave divers (it also swivels making hose routing a bit more flexible).
I dove the local quarry as I mentioned earlier with LP tanks (filled to 2700 psi) and had no problems at all. I quit taking my scubapro regs (GS550, mk25 and rg250, mk16) because they free-flowed at depth every time (42F, and 110 feet deep). Atomic regs work great and I really like them, but the hose routing is not good for doubles, although I may have finally figured out an acceptable method (I prefer to have all right side hoses coming off the right post and all left side hoses coming off the left post, which limits routing).

I would not buy them. I know of one or two instructors that tried them and went back to their old standards because of problems with the regs. I dont remember the detials (maybe they will see this and post here), so you can take this or leave it - good luck either way!

I have sold a good many of the salvo sr2's and have had no complaints whatsoever. I generally do not sell the SR1 as I believe the SR2 is a better reg.
