Here's good news for those of you waiting for an affordable LED backup light with truly outstanding performance.
The NEW Photon-Torpedo LED backup light is in production and has begun limited shipping. We should have full availability by the end of July.
The BRIGHT, TIGHTLY FOCUSED beam far surpasses that of competitors' offerings at a fraction of the price.
Stay tuned for a full product announcement soon.

Any chance that a LED upgrade for older PTs will be available?

Absolutely! In fact, I'm giving first priority to previous Photon-Torpedo purchasers. Those with other brands will have to wait until the supply/demand is worked out.

Nice looking lights, but not so sure about the "priced like a yugo" comment...heh.

I am glad to hear that these are in production now Chuck, what bulb did you go with for the LED? Do you have the specs and prices posted anywhere (I just checked your web site and could not find any information on the LED)? I am definitely looking forward to upgrading my current PT's to the LED version, thanks 8)

I'll give the full details as soon as I can. The website will be the only ordering site initially.
It's a single-LED with tight-spot reflector focusing (as opposed to optics). I will post pics of the beam comparisons as soon as possible (I had to send modules to Heser owners for independent comparisons as I don't have direct access to that unit). I believe you'll be pleased.
Oh yeah, the pricing will be $150.00 for the full light (Photon-Torpedo LED) and $75.00 for the upgrade module. Definitely LESS than a Yugo
Thanks, Chuck

I just received a .jpg from the first independent comparison of the new Photon-Torpedo LED with the Heser and Halcyon LED lights.
The photographer offered these comments:
"This picture was shot at about 30-35 ft. It's a combo of 2 pictures since I could only hold up 2 lights at a time.
I made sure all the batteries used for the Heser and Halcyon were brand new and at a full voltage (i.e. slightly in excess of 1.6V per battery)."
The picture speaks for itself.
I welcome more independent comparisons and encourage you to post them yourself.
I'll enable the website (www.photon-torpedo.com) for sales no later than Monday, July 17th.

Here are 4 more comparison shots with lights I have on hand. These are close-up shots (at 1 and 2 meters) that show the light spill, and the relative beam patterns and color. Somebody send me a Heser and I'll include it as well.

That's interesting, the MAL appears as bright if not brighter at 1 meter but seems to fall apart at 2 meters. The PT appears to hold together, damn I want to see what that beam does uw now.

DeWayne,
At another's request, I took more comparison photos at a longer distance. My driveway isn't that long, so here's what I came up with on short notice.

Chuck,
What kind of burn-time can we expect with your new LED heads?
Thanks,

I am sure Chuck will answer this today Kenny, but I have seen mention where he got over 100 hours and still going strong enough to light up his guages. Another fellow reported that he left his on over night and the next morning he could not detect any dimming. It looks like Chuck has come up with a great product again, that beam really appears to have a good focus to it that maintains the beam when other comparable units fail. I will be upgrading my 2 PT's toward the end of the month; looking forward to seeing them perform in their intended element.

DeWayne,
Thanks for the info. I missed all that. Probably on the Zombie Squad, like I was last night.
Calling it a day!
Thanks Again,

Kenny,
That's a tough question to answer as the light dims so gradually. I can't tell any difference with the naked eye after 2-3 hours, but I'm sure there is "some" difference. I know it'll last long enough to get me out of trouble, then I'm putting in fresh batteries.
As DeWayne pointed out, I ran one for 137 hours that was still putting out sufficient light to illuminate gauges. I finally pulled the batteries so that I could do comparison photos with it.

Chuck,
Fair enough! Thanks for the additional information. I've never been disappointed with any of your products. I'm sure your new LED heads will be of the same quaulity, I've come to expect. All that and customer support equalled by none. :)
Bless,
Kenny P.

Thanks Kenny, and EVERYBODY.
I just updated the website ( www.photon-torpedo.com ) and am now accepting orders online.
I've shipped a bunch already, and more will go out next week.
I'm only sorry I can't sell them for $25.00 instead. :D
