Would it be safe (for the gear function) to engrave on scuba tank, delrin surface, reg to add safety in gear protection from being stolen?

Hell i sticker/ permant marker all of my **** , write my last name on the other stuff. Keep track of your numbers, and let the dive shops know. Best thing for them is to have a friend find the gear/thiefs before the owner.
If the little bastard wants it thier going to take it.
The world turns, and it will come around..

Engraving a cylinder could likely lead to it being taken out of service at the next inspection; some inspectors will fail them if they see evidence that the paint has been sanded off. Every cylinder has a serial number so just record that and paint your name on it.
I got a Brother P-Touch label maker (I couldn't find the Label Baby Junior), so I put my name and cellular phone number on all my reels, stages, etc. This will mean zilch to a thief, but it's there in case I misplace something. I bought it right after my buddy and I drove off leaving a spool at the dive site.
All the labels have stayed on for over a year now, in both fresh and salt water.
