"Underwater Speleology" Article About Alachua Sink

I received the May - June 2006 issue of "Underwater Speleology" today. If you haven't read it yet, there's a lengthly article about the Walmart SuperCenter that's supposed to be built in very close proximity to Alachua Sink. Page 24 has a map of where the building, parking lot, and retention pond will be in relation to where the downstream siphon tunnel is at.

There is going to be a hearing on the Permit on June 13th at Suwannee River Management. This is the opportunity for all of you to be able to present your views and information. I am working that day and doubt I will be able to go. I hope someone can get there. So far the staff is recommending they give out the permit. Several people have stated they will give into to these people so they can make a informed decision and much of that information has not been sent in. We have a very limited time to make any impact. Please either go to the meeting or get that infomration into the Suwannee River Management office. Cindy Butler
